My garmin vivoactive has done me well but is several years old now and the battery doesn't last more than 12 hours anymore. My budget to replace is about £300. I am getting back in to half marathons so need to track runs. I also like the messages and WhatsApp on it and would like to get a find My phone function. I don't have anything apple so that's out but I have no brand loyalty and am open to any advice or suggestions. What do you use and love?

Anyone have any recommendations?? Or ones to avoid?

If your main sport is running I think it’s hard to go wrong with the Garmin forerunner series.

Thank you, what's the battery life like?

several days still on my 2 year old one. I wear mine all the time - it wasn't fully charged when I used the GPS for a couple of hours of Sunday, used it for tracking last night in the gym and had GPS on for an hour cycling to work today and it's still on about 25% battery.

Thank you will investigate them now.

I have a Garmin Forerunner 955 Solar. It lasted me for 16 hours continuous cycling last summer. It was picking up my power meter, HRM, GPS and recording it all. There was still 50% battery left when I finished. Unless you're an ultra runner I can't see you'd clock anything close to 16 hours continuous use up. The solar feature is a bit gimmicky. It might be useful for cycle tours... or long summer hiking trips. But I can't see it's worth splashing out the extra for it.

It navigates too. I've uploaded routes from Komoot when I've been on hol and completed runs using it. I've also used it to navigate me back (when out running). I've found it easy to follow.

I particularly like the way it tracks all the metrics like HR, HRV, blood O2, sleep, stress, steps and all my various workouts. Then it gives me an idea of fitness, progress, recommended workouts etc.

I can also upload music to it, then connect my Bluetooth headphones. I like to run without a phone, so that makes it possible (always have to have music on running).

Do get a screen protector for it. Both the glass cover for the face and protector for the outside of the face. It's quite big and can get knocked easily.
