Tell me about peloton please!!

I'm thinking of getting a peloton, I love spin classes but am really struggling to fit in with the gym timetable with young kids/work etc. kids are big enough that when I'm home I could easily do a class with them hanging about/playing now so that all sounds great. However, it's clearly pricey so want to know what I'd really be getting - can anyone answer below??

  • there is bike and bike+ - what's the difference?
  • do you have to buy shoes etc in addition?
  • How does the £39 membership work - do you also have yoga classes etc on that? Are they any good?!
  • how does the £39 membership differ from the £12.99?!
  • are there ever any discounts I should be aware of?

Thank you in advance!! X

there is bike and bike+ - what's the difference?

Bike+ has a bigger screen, the screen tilts and turns around, and it has electronically controlled resistance so you never need to recalibrate the resistance, which is a known issue on the Bike model. I went for Bike+ because I wanted the most future proof option available to me at the time.

do you have to buy shoes etc in addition?
Yes you need shoes that are compatible with cycling cleats. You can buy as an accessory or you can buy any cycling shoes which fit Look Delta brand cleats from any cycling shop. Peloton branded accessories are overpriced imo.

How does the £39 membership work - do you also have yoga classes etc on that? Are they any good?!
There are hundreds of classes to choose from across multiple disciplines. Cycling, strength, yoga, pilates, stretching, bootcamp, outdoor walks/runs. Choice will never be a problem. There are lots of online community groups that set up events throughout the year too. I enjoy this aspect a lot.

how does the £39 membership differ from the £12.99?!
£12.99 is for the app only. Lots of people buy a cheap gym style spin bike and use the app only. You don't get any ride data (speed/cadence/power etc) without the £39 option so if you want a Peloton bike you need to be OK with the £39 too.

are there ever any discounts I should be aware of?
Yes there are discounts around 3x a year offering a few hundred pounds off.

I'd suggest you sign up for the app for a few months to test it out and then when the bike is on offer you'll know if you want it or not.

I have the bike. Was cheaper and anything like yoga or stretching I just stream from my phone to my TV in the living room
Used a friends code for £100 off I think it was and got the shoes, mat and set of weights as well

I bloody love it. There isn't much exercise that I can be smiling at a joke the instructor has made after 50 mins

As the previous poster says the difference between the bike and bike+. I went for the bike + for the exact same reasons, I also knew I wanted to do the yoga and strength workout and the turning screen is perfect for this.

I also got a peleton as after having my daughter I couldn't get to the gym, however I'm managing to do this 4-5 weeks, I use it for spin and strength, stretching and yoga. I also love bike boot camp too.

They are uploading classes all the time, introducing new classes/exercise all the time. It's actually got me really excited about fitness again and I forgot how good it is for my mental health.

It may be worth doing the app for a bit. I actually think I get 60 days free on it if you want to trial it? So you could try out the yoga class and even just watch a spin class see what you think.

I got a package that was on offer at the time, where the shoes, light weights and yoga mat came with it. As the pp says they tend to have offers 3x a year.
I also love that with the £39 membership you can add other people to your membership so my husband although he doesn't do use the bike, he uses all the strength classes and boxing workouts too.

Overall I really love it!
If you have any other questions just ask ☺️

Thank you all so much this is so helpful. I think it reconfirms that I should give it a go - doing the app first sounds sensible and I can really see what's on it etc before committing. @Daisy95 I would love to have a free trial if that's possible, thank you so much for offering! I don't know how to PM though!!

@octoberbundle If you or anyone else wants a peloton referral if you decide to buy I have a code BBUD7M which gives £100 off accessories and I get £100 off apparel.

We bought the bike and use the app on our tv for strength etc and it works fine, we have a heart rate monitor so you can still track stats that way.

We are about a year on from buying ours and both use it daily so get good value from the membership fee….and I didn’t exercise at all before.
