I'm only 2 weeks in. Have done 5 classes and got some shoes with cleats. Hoping this kick starts my fitness! I also do bodypump and am going to alternate spin and pump most days.

The puddle of sweat under my bike is something else 😳😄

love it but my Achilles don’t seem too. That was a while ago now though I need to start again. It’s a great form of exercise isn’t it?

gottaloveascamhun · 24/04/2022 15:00

I love the flashing lights and the buzz.

Highly recommended getting a cheap gel seat cover for comfort!

Loathed every second of it. Horrible blasting noise, being shouted at, air awash with testosterone and competitive sneering. Ghastly.

gottaloveascamhun · 24/04/2022 15:06

That's a shame @LadyGardenersQuestionTime my gym is really friendly. Everyone just does their own thing and it's dark so you can sit back and turn the resistance down and nobody notices or cares. I just don't stop and that's my only goal at the moment while I get the hang of it.

@gottaloveascamhun

Same. Never any men either for some reason and because it’s dark no one gets to see me dying 😂

Twizbe · 24/04/2022 15:18

I'm like you and love body pump and spin. I do a rhythm class for spin which is all about cycling to the music and having fun really.

It's great exercise. I do yoga alongside to keep my flexibly and make sure I don't over do it on the muscles.

ArtVandalay · 24/04/2022 15:21

I love it. I do about 5 'sprint' classes pw and hate it if I miss one. I notice the men pour sweat onto the floor - the women tend not to be so er, drippy.

I also do pump, which I hate but feel is necessary. I do yoga too. I find it a bit boring but like the results.

MrOllivander · 24/04/2022 15:34

I love it! Bought a peloton and it's the best thing I've spent money on. Spin most days alternating between low impact/recovery rides, endurance ones and fun music ones

gottaloveascamhun · 24/04/2022 17:58

@Twizbe I like Rhythm too. I can't do many of the moves yet but like getting up out of the saddle. The instructor is a maniac and hilarious. Are you a David Lloyd member?

Yep we are. I'm not as good at the moves yet but that bit is all optional really. I just love the fun vibe of it

I hired a spin bike through winter of lockdown as love spin, whilst I’d been cycling to work through the summer months I couldn’t through the winter.

joined a gym again now so swim and spin

gottaloveascamhun · 25/04/2022 19:51

Nice. I'm at DL too. Cyclibe at 6.15am tomorrow before work... it will feel great afterwards even if I'm cursing my alarm at 5.30am

Cyclone I mean

OP posts:
Twizbe · 25/04/2022 20:39

I've not done cyclone. What's it like?

I've not done early ones either. It's almost 10 by the time I can get there most days lol

Ohilovetorave · 25/04/2022 20:44

Can someone tell me how it works please, too scared to try a class 🙄

So basically
Stationary exercise bike, loud music, instructor!

Flashing lights and dark?!? Doesn’t sound like any spin class I’ve ever been to!!
I love it when it’s well taught, we had a great instructor before lockdown who really taught an indoor cycling class but the replacements are just stand up, sit down, pedal faster, bang bang too loud music, there just doesn’t feel like there’s the same purpose to it as his classes had.

My gym does Les Mills, so ‘sprint’ or ‘RPM’.

no flashing lights, but it’s usually in the dark.

Sprint is periods of high intensity interval training with very short recovery gaps.

a good instructor makes all the difference. They’ll check your technique, make sure you’re not bouncing in your seat and motivate you.

RPM is a longer class as it’s not as hard as Sprint.

Lottapianos · 26/04/2022 12:41

My gym does Les Mills RPM classes that are virtual - recorded class shown on a big screen. It's great, you just do your own thing, push yourself as hard as you want to on a particular day, less intense in terms of noise and shouting than an instructor led class. I much prefer it to a live class

JollyWilloughby · 01/05/2022 11:45

@emmathedilemma

Yes depends on the class. Simply spin the lights are on, disco spin is dance music and disco lights. It is dark so you can’t see anyone.

Hey hope you're enjoying your spinning classes. By doin so many classes a week did it effect you're monthly cycle? Iv been doin 5 a week for a month and not come on my periods.

TabithaTittlemouse · 14/12/2022 11:51

I really want to try this but worried that I’ll die

Justtryingitonce · 14/12/2022 12:17

I first tried spin when I was 46 and was severely overweight... I had been going to the gym for 3/4 months and was doing the rounds on everything they had to offer. The first class was hard and a bit scary... I took a couple months to feel brave enough to try again and I loved it second time around. I sit at the back of the class, put the resistance to suit myself (although try to keep to guidelines by the instructor - but started at the lowest end - every time!).

How it works can differ with type of spin class and instructor. My experience is that it is on a static bike - (make sure you adjust seat/handles to your size) and you have a little monitor on your handles telling you speed and resistance. The instructor will tell you roughly what resistance to use and you go through routines - some with high resistance (so similar feeling to going up a hill) some with low resistance but faster. You do some of the routines sitting, some standing (If you want to or need to remain sitting throughout just tell the instructor - I have done this often). You have a fairly long warm up - don't worry if you feel tired after the warm up, you can still get through it!

You always need some resistance - don't be tempted to keep it at zero or close to zero.

Cool down at the end. Stretches on and off bike. Slightly shaky legs when you come off at the beginning (possibly - I certainly had that).

If you are tempted to try it I would absolutely recommend it, classes where I am are quieter at this time of year so it might be a good time to trial it - will get busy again in January no doubt!
