How can I firm up bra bulge area?

I am at the lowest healthy BMI so I don't want to lose weight however my underarms and back are decidedly flabby. I size the back size of my bra generously (old fashioned method not not boob or bust) as I have had a mastectomy and hate anything pressing on scars. The cups of my bras fit - any bigger and they wrinkle. I run and do a few weight and resistance exercises. I was just wondering whether there were any exercises people had noticed a real difference with on their laterals (think this is the correct muscle). I'm sure bra fitting would be much easier if these muscles were firmer.

I think it might help of you did a general HIIT class and a Pilates class - would you have time to do one of each as week? Plus another session of a sport or form of exercise you enjoy. That'll help overall tone.

Hopefully other posters will be along to talk about weights - which may well be the best answer!

Also, look at the Fitness Blender channel on YouTube. it has loads of videos of various durations and intensities, and you can choose them by which part of the body you are targeting

Thanks, @AuntieStella. I don't know about extra time as I run10k a day, don't really want to give that up as I enjoy it. Would it be fat burning there you are thinking of, though? I think the fat burn might be covered with the running but I will look at Pilates to see if I can incorporate any of that, thanks. I'll definitely be able to have a browse at Fitness Blender. Something needs changing up so the advice is really appreciated.

Incidentally I've been browsing through one of my bra suppliers. It does seem to be something women do seem to suffer from post treatment.

The women are slim but many show similar bulges to me in the photos (especially the racer back sports bra) and their bras would be fitted well for the photography.

OK, as you're running that much, obvs running is the sport/form of exercise! I recommended HIIT because it works you all over, so includes target areas but isn't restricted to them. Spot reduction is a mixture of myth and black art! But you can get lucky and reduce sag (even though it doesn't really work on flab, unfortunately)

Still recommend you add Pilates, because that seems to be good at pulling everything in to line, and its good for strength and flexibility all over, which will definitely benefit your running and might help with your bulging bits.

Still think weights is probably the answer, but I don't know enough to advise!

Hmm.. maybe it is mostly sag I have, not flab? My body fat percentage is not particularly high but my flesh feels quite soft in that area and I do get bulging around the back strap on my bra. It makes fitting sports bras quite a challenge. I have been successful with just one brand so far otherwise they dig in and chafe. As I said, I can see similar on the women modelling on that bra supplier website and they are slim. So I think it is mainly muscle work I need. Yes, I'm thinking weights - I do do a few. Just am hoping for a really effective exercise to add in! (Very hopefully a single one!!!😂)

Weight training, proper stuff with heavy(ish) weights.

WouldBeGood · 22/04/2022 09:13

I’d book a few sessions with a good pt and explain what you want to achieve.

Marbles321 · 22/04/2022 09:22

Definitely some proper weight training. Single arm rows and bent over barbell rows will target your back and triceps, and really tone those areas up. Plus triceps dips, push ups and bench press - all great for your upper body strength. And you'll feel great!

Thanks. I will look those exercises up. We have a whole range of weights at home so I can build up to heavier ones. 🙂

Weight training. There are specific exercises for that area.

hihellohihello · 28/04/2022 14:40

Thanks. Weights does seem to be the consensus. As I've said we've a whole range at home. I had shied away from the heavier ones before as lifting them made me feel a bit physically nauseous and I was petrified dropping them on my foot. I think I can build up to them if needs be, though. As long as there is some progression in these things there should be an improvement, in my experience, anyway.
