Armpit fat

I have a BMI of 21. Run and do martial arts but have terrible armpit fat. It bulges like a floppy boob over bras, tank top, strappy dresses vests, which I hate wearing because of it. Any ideas how to tackle it?

Interested in answers to this!

Chest, bicep and tricep weights exercises! Also add some back and shoulder stuff in

EatsQuorn · 14/04/2022 16:16

Are your bras too small ?

Libertynan · 14/04/2022 16:16

Yup! Upper body strength training to muscle it all up.

Worldgonecrazy · 14/04/2022 16:18

As I’m sure you’ve heard a million times, you can’t spot-reduce fat. What you can do is change the muscle tone underneath the fat to make it look better, and help balance things out. I would recommend something like Caroline Girvan to give overall balance.

Well, I've read about the scooping method and it doesn't work. My boobs aren't big but I have ordered some side support ones to try out. I really think it isn't breast tissue. My inner thighs are bad too and I get awful chub rub.

I'll try weights. Being very short, I wonder whether I'd be better off with a slightly lower BMI?

Sounds more like a bra issue.

MarisPiper92 · 14/04/2022 16:23

Check your bra size. Lots of women have breast tissue around their armpits; you may just need a bigger cup size to fit it all in. Otherwise, strength training as suggested.

Sidge · 14/04/2022 16:28

Check your bra size. Remember breast tissue is like a large teardrop shape and extends into your armpit.

Then start doing upper body work, if you don’t already.

Triceps, biceps, lats, delts, shoulders etc.

Face pulls, lat pulldowns, bicep curls, tricep rope pulls, T bar rows, dumbbell work such as skull crushers and upright rows.

EatsQuorn · 14/04/2022 17:52

Try leaning forward when putting your bra on , and kind of swoop them into it .Also remember a bra strap should fit on the first books and as the bra stretches move to 2nd etc . Perhaps try smaller back / bigger cup.

NandorTheRelentlessCleaner · 14/04/2022 21:32

Tight bra strap issue

CorpusCallosum · 15/04/2022 09:21

Bra size is almost certainly wrong. If you have a bigger cup & smaller band there will be more room to scoop the tissue into and it will stay in place.

Kindly... BMI is calculated based on your height so it's a bit silly to think being short means you need a lower BMI. Yours is in the healthy range and you're nice and active. Bodies are all different, if your pelvis is narrow your legs are going to be closer together and rub at the top.

Beetlewings · 15/04/2022 09:53

Quite often it's breast tissue, perfectly ok to have

Snoopsnoggysnog · 15/04/2022 10:00

I have this but it’s not my bra! It’s actual fat in my arm pits! Not at the side. I would love to know how to get rid of it. I am pretty slim and never had this when I was younger

I had this, also the belly and thigh fat. It all disappeared when I stopped consuming dairy. I think it causes the excess fat. It's bovine lactation and it's mean to grow a calf into a cow rapidly. This is my own summation.

I realise this won't be popular. Use or lose as you see fit. I'm 40 and the fat went and never came back. I've been dairy-free 7 years.

gingerhills · 15/04/2022 13:27

Do you weight lift? I'd do weights, and/or dance that involves holding your arms above your head a lot, as well as body weight exercises where your arms are really loadbearing.

These will build up your back, shoulder and upper arm muscles which should help.

gingerhills · 15/04/2022 13:28

@mrziggycoco - is that the only change you made to your diet?

pinkBamboo · 15/04/2022 13:37

Chest press

Yes at that time it was. I gave up dairy cold turkey and that took a month to see visible results. I then went further towards a whole food diet but this was gradual.

Jingerlo · 10/12/2022 08:20

Wow! I've had bulbous arm pits as long as I can remember. I've long marvelled at all the women with scooped out armpits and have felt a freak and since my teens have never worn anything without sleeves - just the odd swimming costume.

I've been fat, I've been skinny but have always been able to grab a complete fist of fat. Two months ago I decided, for the first time in my life, to try giving up dairy. I always sound like I've got a blocked nose and someone suggested it could be a dairy sensitivity. Just this past couple of weeks I've noticed that my underarm swelling/fat has significantly reduced without my overall weight having reduced much. It's really bizarre. I wondered if it was directly related to the the lack of dairy. And now I've read your post mrziggy!

I was on the verge of reintroducing dairy as it hasn't made a discernable difference to my mucus production or made me feel any different. Now I realise it must have been aggravating my system somehow and it's just gradually changing my body quite significantly. I'll keep it up and see what happens. Trouble is I'm type 2 diabetic and the oat milk substitute I have is more sugary than normal milk. I'll just have to drink herbal teas instead.

Now I just need to give up bread!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 10/12/2022 11:03

I agree @mrziggycoco, but I just love cheese 🤦‍♀️ I did whole30 after lockdown 1 and kept off dairy for a year afterwards, and definitely noticed all those bulgy stubborn bits decreased despite my weight staying the same. Annoyingly in a bid to lose a few pounds, I tried low carving and as a result I reintroduced dairy and remembered how much I like it.
i’m planning a major January relaunch!

roarfeckingroarr · 10/12/2022 11:19

It might just be your body. So much is just down to genes and natural shape.
