Has anyone used one? What did you think?

I have seen Slendertone do one, not sure where to start.

All advice greatly appreciated

Sorry to say they’re no good at all really.

Muscle can’t be ‘toned’ and that’s what your bum is; a muscle! - you can build muscle and it can become more visible and prominent by losing body fat so you look more lean but these contraptions don’t work. If they did then gym memberships and diet clubs would be redundant! :)

Best thing for a firmer bum is to eat well and do a lot of glute-focused exercises to build your glutes. If you’re carrying more body fat then you’d like then a slight calorie deficit whilst you focus on glutes would also help!

Workinghardeveryday · 11/04/2022 14:08

@lfell91 thank you, I won’t bother investing in one then.

My bum is small and starting to sag, I want to lift it and build it but nothing seems to work :/

It’s such a difficult area to deal with isn’t it! But honestly keep doing workouts that focus on those muscle groups like glute-bridges, squats, fire hydrants, donkey kicks etc & as the muscle grows and develops you should notice a difference

GregBrawlsInDogJail · 11/04/2022 14:18

Oh, it's you with the bum obsessed DH, isn't it.

OP, I beg of you. Spend your money on a counsellor and not on snake oil. Your bum is fine. Your problem is in your head, but mostly in your bwd.

Dairymilk50 · 11/04/2022 14:19

Have you tried squatting with a kettlebell in your hand OP? I'm no expert but sometimes if I feel like I've put on weight I squat morning and night not for very long and I can a difference with a couple of weeks.

Stellaris22 · 11/04/2022 17:31

A toning pad won't help. The only way to tone it is to consistently strengthen it by lifting heavy. This means getting to the gym and learning to do hip thrusts and split squats, using a cable machine for kickbacks etc. Split squats are great, but make sure you target glutes rather than quads.

It takes months, anything promising to quickly build glutes is lying.

Workinghardeveryday · 11/04/2022 21:42

It’s been a year over exercising, recently I just absolutely hate it! I don’t feel like I am getting results really. I can’t be doing the exercises correctly.

@GregBrawlsInDogJail sadly, yes, it’s me :/

@Stellaris22 what are split squats?!

This
Make sure you are doing the exercises correctly e.g squats need to be back on you heels with bum out like you sitting on a chair, as you come up SQUEEZE hard.
Donkey kicks, fire hydrants make sure you are flat back and focussing on you glutes and gkutenbridges make sure you squeeze again
Like pp if I work at it it does tone up relatively quickly

Stellaris22 · 12/04/2022 07:11

I do split squats in a gym and use dumb bells. I put a bar at knee height on a squat rack and put a back foot on the bar, then lower my back leg towards the bar. You want your front knee to go no further than your toes and at a right angle, too far forward and it targets your quads instead.

Can you get to a gym? I do hip thrusts and use a cable machine for kickback variations. Body weight and resistance bands won't do much, you need to be lifting heavy with a barbell if you really want to grow your glutes. And consistency. Do the same exercises for 3-4 months instead of constantly changing, you want to see progress in weights getting heavier. I go high reps/low weight and end up low reps/high weights.

Chely · 12/04/2022 09:46

Total bollocks, don't waste your money

Resistance training gives great results if you are willing to work for it.

Stellaris22 · 12/04/2022 11:11

These are one of the exercises I do, except my balance is rubbish so I use a squat rack to hold on to. You can have a dumb bell in each hand but I just use one, and rest my back foot on a bar.

You don't want to have your front knee further than your toes, because then you are targeting quads instead of glutes.

But ideally you need to be training in a gym consistently for results. Hip thrusts are fantastic too.

Loads of exercise you can do (for free )to help lift it. You’ll have to put the effort it but it works. I’m 42 with a naturally curvy bum but I do workout regularly which helps to keep it pert!
Don’t waste your cash on gimmicks.

You need to progressively overload the muscles. If you've been working out for a year doing the same thing day in day out your body gets used to it and its longer effective.

Progressive overload is increasing the weight or reps gradually overtime to continuously stimulate muscle growth.

Try and focus on compound movements like squatting and deadlifts and I promise you will see results in a few months.

Workinghardeveryday · 13/04/2022 10:28

I don’t feel like I squat correctly. It always seems to hurt my legs not my glutes

OP posts:
Carpy88999 · 13/04/2022 10:42

Squatting is a compound movement so it does work various muscles at the same time. You get more bang for your buck with compound movements that you do with the muscle isolation machines.

Are you squatting with weights or just body weight? I find it really hard to squat with a rack because I have awful balance so do a variation called a goblet squat with a dumbell.

There's so many YouTube videos you can watch about the correct form which should help you as well.

Stellaris22 · 13/04/2022 10:48

You can use the smith machine if you struggle with balance, but goblet squats are great too. Especially if you really slow down the movement and do pulses. So count to 4 going down then count to 4 again going up.

But I find hip thrusts with a bar at the gym are the best movement for glutes. Try and get a member of staff to show you how to do them correctly and you'll love the exercise, you can get really strong with them. Lift heavy and eat!

Do you have a gym membership? If you are serious about results you need to be consistent and make a training program.

GregBrawlsInDogJail · 13/04/2022 12:16

PP, with respect, the issue here isn't really an exercise one, it's that this poster's 'D'H has cried to her about how he only likes women with big bums and he feels soooooo bad about it but her bum just isn't big enough and she's been desperately trying to build it for over a year.

I am all for people having exercise goals and building up the glutes and all that good stuff and I cracked out a Caroline Girvan this morning because I like a toned bum myself, but you have to do it for yourself, and this is a dickhead relationship issue, not an exercise one.

Stellaris22 · 13/04/2022 12:28

Ok. It's a lot of work to get the results OP wants, and there's no way someone else should be demanding you do the amount of exercise required.

I wouldn't do it for someone else, it's hard and time consuming. Happy to offer advice on exercise, but only if it's something the OP wants for themselves.

I have a PT who loves helping women get strong and her specialty is glutes.

Lady0racle · 13/04/2022 12:37

I have to agree with the PPs. I love Caroline Girvan and enjoy strength training as part of my exercise routine (I also run). It’s hard but I get a deep sense of personal satisfaction from it. I’d even say I love doing it.

I remember the OPs original thread and I can’t believe the OP is still exercising frequently, not because she wants to or enjoys it but to try and achieve a body shape that her husband has decided he finds desirable. I cannot get on board with that. If you exercise, it should be for you - your goals, your health, your enjoyment. Not to try and please somebody else. You don’t need to change your body shape OP. I’d seriously consider changing your husband though.

Workinghardeveryday · 14/04/2022 09:48

Thank you all for your advice.

I am squatting at home (no gym membership, no spare time). Using weights. I can feel it today in my inner thighs, if I could just get my glutes working the same I think it would work!
