How far do you travel for Parkrun?

I am very fortunate that I live close to around 4 local Parkruns (although 1 is usually in the top 10 hardest in the UK due to elevationShock).

The one I usually go to is only half a mile from my house which is the one I frequent the most.

I know they encourage people to take public transport/cycle where possible to the start line, how close are you to your local parkrun and are you a parkrun tourist?

About 10 mins drive but I'm buying a bike and will start cycling as soon as I've done that. There's one a bit further that I'm keen to try as it looks beautiful (trail one).

I drive to mine, used to cycle or run when I lived closer to one but we're currently up a massive hill from it and I can't do the cycle there and back plus parkrun at the moment. It's a shame really, I'd rather bike but am trying to carshare where possible.

StopFeckingFaffing · 27/03/2022 20:51

I have 4 parkruns within about 10 miles (20-25 min drive), none within walking or running distance unfortunately

I occasionally will travel a bit further (max 45 min drive) to try out other relatively local courses and if I'm away for a weekend somewhere with a parkrun then I have been known to go as a parkrun tourist

With the rising price of car fuel I am planning to start cycling to parkrun rather than drive if I can get myself out of bed early enough!

My nearest was 14 miles away - about 25mins drive. So I've never been!
Just heard a new one has opened only 3 miles away. But the terrain is big gravel.
Running out of excuses...

About 2 minute walk. Do a lot of touring but I’m a bit more conscious of the carbon footprint of it than I was 5/6 years ago so I tend to only tour now when I’m in an area for another reason rather than driving a long way just to parkrun.

OP it sounds to me like you might live in Brighton!

If you do, then the tricky one you mentioned is in the field behind my house, so really close :)

5 minutes drive to local one. 10 minutes drive to 3 other different ones. Love them all. Occasionally visit parkruns further away for the fun. Would love one I could walk to but the local one can't be reached on foot because there is no footpath for part of the way.

I have quite a few within easy reach, 2 about 2km away, a few more between 5km and 10km away. I run to the nearby ones as a warmup and cycle to the others if doing them.
I am a bit of a parkrun tourist and if away and there is one nearby I will usually do it.

I have two within an hours drive, neither would be possible on public transport without leaving on the Friday and camping overnight 😂

My nearest one is 4 miles away (used to be 400m until we moved) but I'm a tourist at heart. Done 80 different events so far. Last week I travelled 100mile round trip to do one.

My nearest is about a 20 min drive away, then there are a couple of others that are a 30-40 min drive away. I live in a beautiful rural area, and as much as I'd like to join in with Parkrun, I can't justify the travel time, especially when I can just step foot outside of my house and get any number of beautiful routes around me. I help organise a 10k run in my area, and am always quite sad that we've not really got a space that could work for a parkrun, as there are so many local keen runners.
