Knee and leg pain

I'm 50, probably in peri menopause, my knees and legs are knackered. I struggle to get up from the floor, I feel ancient. Is this it now? Or are there any exercises that could help?
Thanks for any advice!

Is there any reason your legs and knees are knackered? I think any low/minimal impact exercise should help.....cycling, pilates, swimming, aqua fit, yoga, light weights, zumba etc. If you're overweight then loosing weight would also help.

Well it sounds like any exercise would help. What exercise do you do already, any?

Resistance training is the way to go - squats, lunges, deadlifts, pullups, press-ups etc. They will help to keep your muscles working and mimic everyday movements - google "functional fitness".

Good idea to have a couple of sessions at least with a PT to check your form, so you don't pick up injuries. Start off bodyweight and you'll be able to progress to using weights. A good way to fend off osteoporosis as well, weightbearing exercise helps to strengthen bone density.

Similar age. Knee problems. Overweight. I was told by a PT to lunge backwards and not forwards. Less pressure on the knees apparently!

Ive had the same problem. I went on HRT patches and that has helped to a point. Im cycling 30 miles a week because I couldn’t run as I just picked up more injuries, and I would have to walk for days on end to actually lose any weight with it. Ive found Epsom salt baths help but Ive also found that a lack of magnesium could be the issue. You dont absorb it well when you’re lacking in oestrogen. Peri menopause has also caused venous issues so I now wear compression stockings which helps with the heavy leg feeling and swelling.

I'm 50 and always been fit and active . My knee ankle and foot started swelling and turns out I have osteoarthritis.
I'd see your gp.
I'm waiting to find out what exercise I can safely do as always been a runner and clearly cannot now .

Yes! definitely get it all checked at the docs. Once you know the cause you'll know his to tackle it!

While you're waiting for your doc appointment (which could be a long wait these days!), then I've found glucosamine supplements and regular yoga both help. For yoga, I just follow online free tututorials, such as Adriene on YouTube.
