Can I continue training?

I've just discovered I'm 4 weeks pregnant. I'm not a fitness bunny - I'm still overweight - but over the past year we've made a concerted effort to improve our fitness a lose some weight with good results. I walk on average 5-7 miles per day which I will continue but I also go training with a PT once per week and I'm not sure how safe it all is?
I tend to do a lot of lower body stuff, such as weighted hip thrusts, currently around 50/60kg, lots of weighted squats, and we'll tend to do bits of cardio such as x number of calories on the assault bike or ski-erg. Is it safe to continue doing those kind of exercises?
I know the obvious thing would be for me to speak to my PT but it's incredibly early days and he knows a lot of people in my personal life very well so I'm dreading it getting out.

Speak to you doctor or midwife for advice!

Agree with the advice to speak to doctor but you can also have a look on the Girls Gone Strong website which has a lot of info that you might find helpful. Your PT may or may not have the experience to give good advice but if you make it clear you are telling him in confidence then he should respect that and not tell any mutual friends.

I would but they aren’t interested in speaking to me yet and I’m trying to work out whether I need to try and come up with excuses not to train for potentially 6 weeks

Thank you, I’ll have a look at that website. I can’t speak to any medical professionals yet (GP only deals with emergencies and I have only just registered to get a midwife appointment so will be 2 weeks before I even have basic contact).if push comes to shove I’ll just have to tell PT

MegSquats (find her on YouTube and Instagram) has specialised pre-natal routines and advice - she trained throughout her pregnancy and took extra qualifications to assist her in training others. Inspirational but also very very safe.

Advice to me in pregnancy has been to continue what you've already been doing exercise wise as long as you're comfortable. As you get bigger you'll have to adapt. A couple of my friends continued to circuit train in groups until they gave birth.

If you have no physical reason to not exercise then carry on.

You must tell your PT as he may need to adapt his training programme for you. Obviously tell him the information is confidential.

I trained with a PT while pregnant, some adaptations were needed to protect my joints as the increased levels of relaxin soften ligaments. You also need to be careful with core exercises and lifting due to the risk of diastasis recti.

Your PT needs to know. Tell him to treat the info as confidential.

Rule of thumb is continue with what you already are used to that still feels comfortable, but I'd be thinking hard about abdominal work, those ligaments take a battering later so will need to easy up soonish.

You must tell your PT. If you can't trust him to keep confidential information confidential, I'm not sure you should be training with him. It is a relationship that involves trust I think. Congratulations on your pregnancy.
