Gym

So, I've joined a gym. I have never been to a gym before and now I'm faced with not only the gym but the classes too. I'm massively overweight but ready to give things a try. I'm a total beginner. I don't know what half the classes are, never mind how to do them or whether I'd be any good at it.
Where should I start?? I'm really shy too so going into a class would be hell for me, but I'll get over it quickly enough.

Ooh yay! That's fab OP!

I have recently started going to the gym pretty regularly and am really enjoying learning new things and about the different muscles I use etc.

I always swam a lot so I knew my shoulders and back and chest would be reasonably strong. I've been learning how the different weights machines work and also how to do free weights which I honestly never thought I would do.

I'm still a bit scared of classes as some of the ones I have been to have been really really hard (and I can swim 2km in 46 minutes so have always figured I was pretty fit, if somewhat overweight!).

I need to woman up and try some out!

PS I meant to ask have you decided on what sort of things you want to learn/do while you're there?

My ultimate goal is fat loss but really hoping to enjoy myself while getting there.
I'm going to join loads of classes and see which I prefer. I'm hoping to build muscle so gonna do cardio but do some weights too.

That makes sense! I find weights more enjoyable than cardio as a rule and am just totally insistent on reminding myself that exercise I do (whatever it is) is better than exercise that makes me not bother because I don't want to.

I often see people saying exercise doesn't help you lose weight but certainly for me it means the amount I can eat and still lose weight tips into auch less meagre territory so I can have things I like and still lose weight.
