Books about swimming

I've just got into swimming and want to read more about it. I've read Leap In, but am wondering if there are other books to inspire me - either memoir type things like Leap In, or more practical guides to improving technique.

NB I am not talking about wild swimming!

Thank you

I can't swim and need to learn
I need one on one lessons
I'm hoping it'll strengthen my stomach muscles and back

Sorry can't help with books as I just need arm bands at the moment

Adam Peaty has written a book, I bought it for my swimmer son. I'm not sure how much is about swimming in particular or just motivation in general as he hasn't read it yet.

I know you say not wild swimming… but Waterlog by Roger Deakin is one of the most beautiful and inspiring books I’ve ever read.

It’s about his wild swimming adventures, but I’m sure it will give you motivation in the pool too.

Thanks both, I shall look up those books. I am really enjoying swimming at the moment and want inspo to read at home to encourage me to keep going.

@PGSTesting123 I hope you find someone good to teach you. I did half an hour of fairly strenuous swimming yesterday and as I swam I thought how grateful I was to have been taught well when I was little. I was buzzing all day afterwards and can't wait to get back in the pool. It's so worth doing!

Can't help with books but there are tons of youtube videos to help with swimming technique.

My friend who can swim has recently started lessons to improve her technique loves it - could you book yourself a little block of lessons to get better at it op?
Sorry if l am missing the point of the thread!

It's an idea @Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin , trouble is I can't be bothered! I can swim fairly well but would just like to read quietly at home about how to improve technique, ideas for good swim workouts, facts about swimming, that sort of thing. Like when I took up yoga I got a book with positions in but also advice about it, suggestions blah blah.

I might have a look at youtube, hadn't thought of that @savvy7 , thank you

Find out if your local leisure center holds swimming lessons. You can improve your swimming skills and techniques that way. And it is fun too. That is the only real way to assess and improve skills and technique unfortunately.

Swimsmooth by Adam Young is very good

LethargeMarg · 30/12/2021 11:24

The lido by Libby Paige is a lovely read
Also there is a brilliant documentary film on Netflix called 'the ponds' all about the swimmers at the Hampstead Heath ponds

For general reading about swimming, I’d recommend Swell by Jenny Landreth, and Splash: 10,000 Years of Swimming by Howard Means.

For more technical books, there’s the Swimming Drill Book, containing different drills for perfecting all four strokes. Terry Laughlin’s Total Immersion is good too & IIRC includes some sample workouts that you can follow.

Thanks all! I shall look those all up now
