Running leggings

Can anyone recommend reasonably priced ( up to £30) running leggings that don't fall down. My running level is more c25k than marathons.

Decathlon.
Cheap, good fit & materials, lots of features (pockets, visibility for night running)

Chocolateteabag · 19/09/2021 18:54

Ron Hill via eBay or Decathlon

Quickchangeartiste · 19/09/2021 19:05

Underarmour - on Amazon or other online stores.

AuntieStella · 19/09/2021 19:06

Decathlon - best VFM by far, most are about the £20 mark or lower, various lengths and weight of fabric. Squat proof, good pockets and drawstrings - so they definitely stay up

emmathedilemma · 20/09/2021 11:55

You need to try the decathlon ones on, I have some that are great but I've sent others back because they were completely transparent when stretched!!
I used to have some really good ones from Sainsbury's but not tried theirs recently.

Ellarain · 20/09/2021 12:10

I actually bought a great pair of la gear leggings on sports direct. So comfy and don't roll down.

thesplashing · 20/09/2021 12:20

I have a couple of pairs of Nike running leggings I've had for over ten years Shock the new elasticated waist ones just seem to be for fashion IMO.

I think the key to a good pair of running leggings is that they have a hidden tie waist on the inside to stop any slipping down. That and they aren't see through.

Cakeandslippers · 20/09/2021 12:50

I second the comment above - look for anything with a drawstring. I've never found a pair without a drawstring that'll stay up on any run no matter how slow I plod! I think there's been an explosion in leggings for day to day wear and most no longer have the drawstring.

Elmo230885 · 22/09/2021 09:26

I have a pair from M&S with a drawstring and don't have an issue. They were a bargain too, reduced from £25 to £9! One solitary pair was left in my local store, I took it as a sign from the universe as they were in my ( rather large ) size! I'm kind of using how tight I have to pull the drawstring as a sign of progress!

sunflowerdaisies · 22/09/2021 09:29

My favourites are under armour. I like the decathlon shorts but not the leggings so much. Loads of my friends like tikiboo - i don't mind them and I love the designs but they're a bit 'shiny' for me - the fabric feel that is.

purplesequins · 22/09/2021 09:31

decathlon has decent ones.
buy a size bigger, that definitely helps them stay up.

if you take you phone consider an arm sleeve instead of a legging pocket.

MinaPop · 22/09/2021 09:38

It probably depends a lot on your body shape and size. Wide hips, small waist? Or more straight up and down? Waist wider than hips? Torso length? Etc.

I have always hated a thin tight line around the waist (like thin elastic or a drawstring). They do stay up if the drawstring is tight enough, but it has to dig in and it feels like th rest of the leggings are moving down and they are just hanging off the drawstring.
I usually like leggings with a wide waistband and no drawstring. But I have average hips, a waist that goes in quite a bit, and a long torso, so the wide band seems to snuggle in well. The height of the waistband is also very important.

Moral of the (extremely long) story is that you have to try them on!

Hodgo · 23/09/2021 21:21

Best leggings I have ever had for running - highwaisted, loads of pockets and never had to adjust them!

Rainbows and Sprinkles, great designs and super comfy.

aliasd · 23/09/2021 21:29

Got some from Next its their own make... have inner drawstring and pocket at the back with zip for keys they don't shift and wash well think about £20 or £25

WillYouDoTheFandango · 23/09/2021 21:32

These leggings form Amazon are great. They never fall down and have a good phone pocket on the leg. They’re super thick and I’ve had mine since January 2020 worn at least 1-2 x per week and still going strong.

princesspenny · 23/09/2021 21:39

I second Rainbows and Sprinkles, go a size down. Lovely wide high waist band, you can choose thigh or back pockets and for me they stay on fine.

Sweaty Betty fit lovely too and stay up but they are expensive

StillNoFuckingEyeDeer · 23/09/2021 21:55

Karrimor from sports direct.

randomsabreuse · 23/09/2021 22:39

I'd either splash out on sweaty Betty powers in the sale or get something cheap (with a drawstring) from Aldi, Lidl or Decathlon. Increasing price doesn't seem to increase quality very much/at all. I like Tikiboo and Sweaty Betty Power, both have good sized pockets that take a phone so I can avoid extra bags etc. Gymshark training leggings don't have a drawstring and have zero pockets, not even somewhere to put a key... Gymshark speed are decent enough, good support, stay up well but only pocket won't take my phone (by a minimal amount but won't go) - would be fine with a smaller iPhone though (I have a Motorola G7). Sweaty Betty Power have 1 back and 1 side pocket, drawstring, stay up well, supportive. Most I've paid is £45, wait for sales. The Power High Waist doesn't have a drawstring but stays up well. No back pocket but 2 side pockets.

Zero Gravity. Stays up well but size up vs powers. Not squat proof but light and cool for hot weather runs (limiting my need to wear shorts to the very hottest days). Same pockets as Power.

Aurique (from Amazon). SB look alike but stitching nowhere near as durable. After 3 months I'd not risk them for longer than a 10k as the inseam is starting to look worn. Less durable than my Aldi leggings which were half the price (and typically have never appeared again).

I still need some fleece lined tights for deep winter cold as I killed my Aldi pair last winter!

Shopgirl1 · 23/09/2021 22:39

Nike The One leggings are fine, stay up, available in different lengths. I run about 40km a week and have a few of these on the go. They wash well also.

AuntieStella · 23/09/2021 22:44

Decathlon are excellent VFM, because they are both inexpensive and high performance - look at any parkrun, look at any run club, look at any race, and you'll see loads of people in Decathlon own brands.

Others brands you see a lot at running events are Nike, Adidas, New Balance, 2XU

Anjelika · 24/09/2021 15:31

I love Decathlon but have tried on many pairs of running tights there and they don't fit my (decidedly apple) shape. I bought some from M&S last weekend which fit really well - pocket at the back and side pocket for phone. £25. Have a pair of Sweaty Betty Zero Gravity which I love. Other than that have Next, another M&S pair, a great fitting H&M pair and an Under Armour pair. You really need to try a load on!

Gherkingreen · 24/09/2021 15:35

I always recommend Matalan sports leggings on here. I have two pairs, one plain and one with mesh and side pockets which are REALLY handy. Both pairs under £20, high waist, hold me in, never roll over or down, decent length (I'm tall).
Totally recommend for running, walking, gym, weights or 'weekends can't be arsed to out proper clothes on'. Grin
