Shoes/trainers for achilles tendonitis?

Long saga but I'll try to cut a long story very short.

After injuring my knee, I compensated for it and have developed heel pain, a limp and I've gimped my back.

After months of this, I finally got to see a physiotherapist, instead of trying to explain everything down the phone.

Turns out the heel pain is a flare up of plantar fasciitis AND achilles tendonitis.

I was given exercises to do and they are helping.

However, what shoes can I wear? My Skechers, which I previously lived in are now crippling me.

I seem to need a 'tough', hard sole and yet another orthotic.

What shoe or trainer could anyone recommend?

I am skint, so the cheaper, the better.

Altras...

Not cheap, sorry.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 07/08/2021 18:49

hmm, i think you need an insole

purplesequins · 07/08/2021 18:50

birkenstocks or the skecher birkenstock knock offs?

If you're going to be wearing orthotics they will probably incorporate a heel lift of some sort i'm guessing? You will need to be careful about what shoe you buy as any with a heel-toe drop will add to the lift in your orthotic. This might be a place to start www.solereview.com/best-running-shoes-for-orthotics/

Gingernaut · 07/08/2021 19:39

SSP skint atm.

hopefully the orthotics/insoles will do the trick op.
ask in a sports shop for a wide fit due to the orthotics, or wait til the orthotics arrive and try on with them

I had Achilles tendonitis and bought myself Nike Tanjun shoes. They were brilliant.

I've had that combo a lot, PF & AT.

I imagine you have to try different shoes to see what works.

Going barefoot doesn't aggregate my PF or AT, but might make yours worse. Listen to your feet.

I ruptured my achilles and then developed plantar about 7 years ago. The only shoes that have helped me out have been a big clumpy pair of Blundstone boots. Not very glam but they've changed my life. I have to say I benefit from swapping to a pair of bouncy trainers (Nike Air Max work for me) for a day or two a week as I think variety helps if you're wearing them for long periods. I'm on my feet for 10 hours a day at work and I've actually been able to walk after a 5 minute sit down for the first time in years since doing this.

Brooks running shoes-I've had numerous bouts of tendinitis to the point my podiatrist thought my foot/ankle might require surgical intervention-after physical therapy and Rx pain medicine I purchased brooks after going to a specialist in shoe sizing and he put me in that brand along with over the counter orthotics.

I do have orthotics (waiting for a new NHS custom pair) and some clumpy hard soled shoes, but really need a trainer style shoe that offers a bit of support.

Like I said, the Skechers were heaven once, but now the soft, sponge like sole, which offers little support, is aggravating me.

Walking barefoot is unbelievably painful at the minute.

Orthotic Sandals with Great Arch Support (Black) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B081VM5W89/ref=cmswwrcppapiglttfabcP0MYJK4EB66RS89J48K0

I found these helped me.

I've had achilles tendonitis on and off for a couple of years. Since I started running in Saucony Hurricanes the pain has completely disappeared, for what it's worth.

On Cloud flyers are very good. You'll probably need to go up at least a full size to fit your customs in, though.
