Post-swim clothing

I’m looking to start swimming but with covid I don’t want to spend much time in the changing rooms afterwards. I’m thinking of showering at gym and then chucking a tracksuit on to drive home in. Can I get a towelling type tracksuit for less than £40? Alternatively for those of you who do the same what sort of tracksuit/clothing do you wear?

A lot of people at my local pool drive home in over the head towels then I presume shower at home

ShinyMe · 26/07/2021 21:30

I don't like hanging around even in non covid times. I just towel myself down, leaving my costume on, and then get dressed and go home. I get soggy, but it works for me. Easiest is sandals and a stretchy dress, but leggings and a t shirt are fine too.
Sometimes I go to a local outdoor pool too, and loads of people there wear those tent-towel-dress things.

I also quite fancy one of those long puffa dressing gowns, but that might just be a sign that I'm watching too much olympic swimming.

Thank you both. I quite like the idea of the long changing robes and I can easily adapt it to make it a onesie type thing

A wrap dress is really easy.

I use this Winthome Changing Bath Robe, Surf Poncho Towel with hooded www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01MS3XLQ6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_QCR1ZRE1YCFRRKFR5C8Y?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

Something like this?

My local pool is less than 5 minutes' walk away so I used to just stick shorts and a sweatshirt or t-shirt on and walk back soggy. Sadly it's being refurbished so I now have to go 30 minutes away! I'll join you for suggestions.

I'm always a bit amazed at the effort some people at my gym go to after a swim, getting all dressed up in heels and make up and blow dried hair and all that. I suppose they must be going to work or something. I bet they think I look shocking! I'm literally in and out of the changing room in a couple of minutes, soaking wet hair and all. It's much nicer to go home and wash properly.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 26/07/2021 21:36

Oh I think those are technically pyjamas, never mind!

CarnationCat · 26/07/2021 21:39

I'm going to start going swimming soon.

I won't shower there as I want to have a 'proper' shower at home. Will probably just stick a tracksuit on. Maybe leggings.

JenniferAllisonPhillipaSue · 26/07/2021 21:42

On holiday (Haven didn't encourage you to linger in their changing rooms!) I found it was easiest to roughly towel dry and then throw a skirt and t-shirt over my costume to drive home and shower there. The skirt meant I could dress over my head, rather than try to stop trouser legs dragging on the wet floor.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 26/07/2021 21:45

I jump in the shower at the pool and quickly shampoo my hair and wash the chlorine off, then just throw a jersey dress or tshirt and shorts on for the drive home.

Takes 5-10 mins between getting out of the pool and being in the car, then when I get home I put some leave in conditioner through my hair, dry and style it.

CMOTDibbler · 26/07/2021 21:50

From the pool I wear a Charlie McLeod onesie which is oversized and cut to be easy to pull on when damp. From the lake or river where I change in the open, I wear my towelling robe in the summer, and Smoc Smoc (with onesie plus other layers depending on temperature) home, always accessorised with a microfibre hair turban. I have no shame tbh, but have been delighted to find my style tribe in cold water swimmers where matching your bobble hat to your changing robe is as stylish as it gets

TheatricalGiraffe · 26/07/2021 21:54

My post swim outfit today was a pair of cotton cycling shorts and a jumper...suited me fine for the cycle home...

I usually get out of the pool (I keep my towels on the side), put my hair into its turban, wrap my towel around me,
Go and get changed (loose slouchy stuff, the last thing you want is trying to wrestle into tight gymwear) and I shower at home

AsCoolAsKimDeal · 27/07/2021 19:07

I wear a fleece yoga pants and a hoodie on the Tube home from swimming.

Bellringer · 27/07/2021 19:13

Kaftan or maxi dress

Yes, if only it was longer in the legs

Thanks everyone. I guess im overthinking in that whatever i wear has to be towlling as it/me will dry pretty quickly?? Plus I'm not going to be dripping as would towel thick of it off before getting dressed.
So i could just buy a onesie or loose pyjamas/tracksuit to wear home?

The changing rooms are still much quieter and drier than pre-covid. I think you're overthinking. It takes about 6 seconds to take your costume off in a cubicle. Maybe 15 seconds to have a quick dry off, and you'll be much more comfortable going home. Trackie bottoms and cotton t shirt, slip on shoes, done. Honestly I think it'll take longer to do it all wet.
