Can anyone recommend an exercise bike?

I don’t really know where to start. Completely inactive but want to improve my health

Don’t really want to spend over £250 but having a look at Argos and there’s just loads of different ones

I'd recommend getting a spin bike rather than just an exercise bike. It can be used the same as an exercise bike but is also suitable for spin classes which are far more interesting than just sitting and pedaling. The beauty of using a bike is you are in charge of the resistance (how heavy the pedals are to turn) and speed (how fast you pedal) so you really can go at your own pace and as your fitness improves you adjust upwards. I love a spin class - I find the instructors and the music motivating and I achieve far more than if I was pedaling while watching the tv or listening to music. I use the Peloton app and Les Mills on an ipad. Both require a monthly subscription - £12.99 for Peloton and £11.95 for Les Mills (though I got a deal on LM and pay £8 pm) However, you can also find free classes on Youtube - I've done a few Studio Sweat classes.

Back to bikes - I've had a look at the Argos ones and the only suitable one under £250 is this one. I can't vouch for it but the reviews look ok. It's worth checking Facebook marketplace, Gumtree and Ebay for 2nd hand bargains.

I can't recommend an exercise bike but I can tell you what make/model of exercise bike shaped clothes hanger I bought in lockdown.

I agree with PP. Try the Les Mills workouts and look on Gumtree. That's where my bike is going.

I have decided home exercise is not for me and I'm SO glad our local gyms have reopened.

I agree with PP on getting a spinning bike and using an app to follow classes - I also use Peloton as got a free subscription during lockdown with my health insurance. That free period is now up and I've decided to continue paying as I really like the instructors (and the app offers much more besides spinning - running, walking, strength, yoga, stretching, Pilates, barre...).

Our spin bike was secondhand on Ebay, a Life Fitness one. Make sure you've got a clear resistance and cadence screen, and I'd say buy the best you can afford, try and so some research. Now that gyms have re-opened, there may well be some bargains as people get rid of their lockdown equipment.

There's quite a good FB group for Peloton digital app users, where they frequently discuss which bikes they have (that AREN'T Pelotons), would be a good place to start or ask questions.

But before doing any of that - do you like cycling? I have to say I'm not a cyclist and never used the spin bike until I got Peloton, and now do at least one spin class a week, so you never know, but always good to choose something you enjoy. A set of weights/resistance bands would be cheaper...

Thanks everyone. I’ll take a look at all of those tips

Hopefully I can find one suitable

Facebook marketplace is good for spin bikes. I use the Peleton app too they currently have 3 months for £12.99 offer and they have a wide range of classes.
