Period pants for Running

RolandOnTheRopes · 17/06/2021 17:18

Hiya
Does anyone have any recommendations for period pants to be worn while running? I don't have a massively heavy flow, but can't use tampon/other inserted products, and as I'm increasing my running distance I'm looking for an alternative to sanitary towels.
They are not cheap so I'd really like to hear others options.
Many thanks!
(Equally if anyone has any brands to avoid that would be helpful)

Following, I use a moon cup generally but pads for running and would rather get some good pants. I hope someone comes with some recommendations soon

TheVeryHungryTortoise · 21/06/2021 16:19

I sometimes use my off brand mooncup, but I do also run in my modibodi period pants. I wouldn't recommend their cotton "traditional" type ones for running because they do give me a bit of a nappy feel, but I love their newer seamfree period pants. The seamfrees have a swimwear type feel to them so may not be to everyone's taste, but I find them great for running.

P.s you can message me for a discount code if you wany to try them (and I get a discount too.)

Cheeky wipes are brilliant, a UK company and much cheaper than the American brands.

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 21/06/2021 16:23

I should say cheeky wipes is the brand, they sell all sorts of reusable sanitary and baby products roughly £10 a pair I think

Solidaritea · 21/06/2021 16:27

They are better than pads for sure - no chafe.

Little warning though - they do absorb sweat as well as blood, so you will definitely need to change soon after the run.

TheHoundsofLove · 21/06/2021 18:26

I'd also recommend Cheeky Wipes. I don't use period pants, but do use their reusable pads and they are absolutely brilliant. They wash well and still look like new after a couple of years. I wish I'd bought them years and years ago as they are so much more comfortable to wear.

Reporting back...
I was going to get some from Modibodi but they had a sale on so had sold out my size in the ones I wanted.
I then saw an article in Women's Running magazine and they had highly rated the Susie Sporty Hip Hugger from BP3. I'd never heard of that brand but thought I'd give them a go, just tried on a 30min run and all good. I'll try on a longer run next and then will probably end up getting a second pair.
It's this company - www.bp3underwear.com/

Just wanted to say that I am the founder of bp3 underwear and really appreciate you sharing this. I designed the underwear myself as I didn't like what was on the market. If anyone wants to try and would like a discount you can use code HOLLYB10 for 10% off.
Always happy to answer any questions!

Do your pants have the absorbent bit going from the waistband at the front all the way under and up to the waistband at the back ? I have some old Diary Doll pants like this and they are great for stopping leaks. But some of the newer period pants only have the absorbent bit where a sanitary towel would be.
KellyNewts · 15/07/2021 09:41

The Sporty designs only have the gusset where a sanitary pad would be as we wanted them to be as discreet as possible but the pad is really absorbent on the Susie knickers. On the Renee and Polly knickers the gusset goes all the way up the back to the waistband but not at the front.
Hope that makes sense?!

Hoppinggreen · 15/07/2021 09:43

I think there is a brand of running gear called Iceni that covers this
I don’t run but a friend mentioned them

These look great, I’d been wondering about getting a pair of period pants for running - I use reusable pads from eco period most of the time during my period.

Can I ask about sizing? I’m really a size ‘13’ as I wear a mix of size 12 or 14 depending on the shop. Medium is usually a perfect fit, but the waist sizes listed looked like these might be a bit smaller.

KellyNewts · 15/07/2021 10:21

They do tend to come up smaller, in the Susie knickers I would recommend an XL.
We recommend that you try them on over another pair of knickers, and are always happy to exchange if the sizing isn't right for you.

It does, thanks. But as I sleep on my front a lot I need it to go up the front too. Perhaps you’ll consider this in the future ?
KellyNewts · 15/07/2021 11:08

Absolutely, always happy to take on board customer requests.
We've now included one of our styles up to a size 30 to be more inclusive. We are a small independent brand so constantly learning and evolving!

DinosaurDiana · 15/07/2021 12:27

Great, I’ll keep an eye out for them.

alrightfella · 15/07/2021 12:31

They sell period pants everywhere now. Primark do them for £6, M&S and Sainsbury's sell them cheaply too

Purplewithred · 15/07/2021 12:36

@KellyNewts are you thinking of a range for leaky bladders? I find period pants aren't quite up to the job when running (wee more gushy and wet - apologies for TMI)

Faithless12 · 15/07/2021 12:40

I didn’t get on with thinx, but have really enjoyed my aisle period pants. I haven’t gone running in them but have done my workout in them.

KellyNewts · 15/07/2021 12:55

@purplewithred - I actually use them for incontinence as do a lot of my customers! I've suffered with stress incontinence for years with has progressively gotten worse since going through the menopause. I find the Susie ones are better for me now as they are more absorbent. I started off on the lighter ones (Sarah & Coni).
Don't apologise for TMI - I'm always talking about it!!

RolandOnTheRopes · 15/07/2021 12:55

@KellyNewts The randomness of MN always makes me smile!
That's great, thank you for your pants Grin
