Its definitely possible to run everyday. I do, give or yake 1 or 2 days off a month. But then I've been running for 10 years on and off, and have built up to my current level of fitness and consistency. The key though is to listen to your body, too much too soon and you'll end up tired, injured, in pain and unmotivated. The key so to listen to your body.

DH runs most days. I only run when a car backfires...

OP I've just completed C25k so first of all well done 👏

I am now aiming for 2-3 times a week to build up my stamina as it's very hilly where I live! I would think you had to be very fit to run every day but perfectly doable. As PP says, rest days are really important to avoid injury. Good luck, you've got this 👊

fellrunner85 · 13/05/2021 15:18

It's just because you're not very fit. One day you'll find yourself at the stage where you're doing a gentle 5k as recovery, and not counting it as an actual run!

I never thought I'd get to that point, but it comes quicker than you think.

BrownEyedGirl80 · 13/05/2021 15:25

@fellrunner that's good to hear I really hope I can get to that point.

Yep, since march last year I've had about 10 days where I haven't run and I can notice my mood change when I haven't had a chance to get out and do it!

PlugUgly1980 · 13/05/2021 16:29

@fellrunner85 - definitely, love my Friday 'rest' days which are 'just' a steady 5k Smile

Yes if you want to. Do lots of stretching, yoga etc too as you build up as so many runners get injured when they do too much.

idril · 13/05/2021 16:43

Yes, I run 6 days a week. I could run 7 but it's nice to have a day off. This time last year I only ran 3 days a week but I'd been doing that for over 10 years. I increased my running over lockdown.

ReviewingTheSituation · 13/05/2021 16:58

It's very possible - I've done a few 'run streaks' (where you run every day), but until last year I was running 3-4 a week.
Since the first lockdown I've been running 5x a week - initially because I needed to get out of the house/the weather was lovely/nothing else to do, then it became a legitimate way to catch up with people, and now it's a habit. It feels odd if I run less than that now.

The key is to mix things up - runs off different lengths, on different terrain, at different speeds. One of my runs every week is always a very slow one (about 2 min/mile slower than a fast run), and that's so good for you.

Chocolateteabag · 13/05/2021 20:16

I did a RED challenge this January - some days were literally just a slow mile or 2 to tick the day off but I managed it (mainly due to lockdown boredom!)
Definitely something to work your way up to slowly and listen to your body, don't force things or you'll get injured

VanillaAndOrange · 14/05/2021 12:01

I could probably run daily if I had time, but it would be a maximum of 5K a day, sometimes less. (If I was challenging myself to run daily I'd probably make some of them very short intervals sessions.) I prefer to run 2 or 3 times a week and include some longer runs, including 10K at least once a month.

For me to work up to being able to run daily and still include some longer runs - I won't say it would be physically impossible, but I think it would mean devoting pretty much all my spare time to running, training and eating right, and I'm not that dedicated.

Yes... but it depends on how fast you are, really, doesn't it. Few people have longer than an hour a day to spare for exercise. But some people can run 7-8 miles in that hour whereas others might manage half that.

LadyCatStark · 14/05/2021 12:44

Yes absolutely. I find your running stamina builds up surprisingly quickly compared to other forms of exercise.

Everyday21 · 18/05/2021 12:35

I did c25k jan 2020, loved doing a 5k but definitely couldnt every day. This time last year I went down and 3.2k every day because I loved getting up early and out in the fresh air, after 3m of that I went up in distance. I took april off this year due to injury and I'm really struggling to get stamina back. Currently doing 5km x3 a week but I think today I've decided I'll go back to 3.2k to build up again
