Couch to 5k beginner

I was thinking its about time I gave couch to 5k yet another go (I think it will be my 10th time, have completed it once but gave up after running after doing a half marathon 4 years ago!) and I wondered if anyone fancied joining me, and providing gentle encouragement (or yelling encouragement) from the side lines! I will be starting tomorrow on a treadmill

I definitely won't be joining you Grin but I will be here to cheer you on!

I'm going to start again, but in a couple of weeks when I've moved and will be on top of a park. It will be c25k no.4 for me this time, I got up to half marathon distance last time.

Shaggervalley · 20/03/2021 01:41

I'll give it ago . I'm not very fit and tried it once last year . Got to a pathetic Wk 3 but have did a wee bit more exercise since then .

DramaAlpaca · 20/03/2021 02:54

I'm going to placemark. I've been considering doing it again, did it a few years ago with lots of support from here, but I'm just not sure if I can manage to motivate myself. I'm older, fatter and stiffer since I last did it.

I can yell encouragement at you though, no problem Smile

I would have bitten the bullet and started today but the weather is terrible. I may start on monday, depending on weather.

You can do it OP!

Those of you that have done it before, and especially those that got up to a half marathon (wow!!) can I ask - why did you stop? And when you go back to C25k, do you think you’ll need to start from the beginning or do you think your previous fitness will kick in?

I did c25k a couple of years ago. Was too slow to do a whole 5k in the 30 minutes, but I completed all 9 weeks.

Stopped because it made me realise I hate running, it’s just not for me. I am glad a did it tho, I set myself the challenge and did it. But I am not a runner.

I'm going to be honest, I'd completely forgotten I started this thread last night, but I will start it again today! Had a Facebook memory pop up today and it's actually 5 years ago today that I finished my half marathon, and I look so proud of myself in the photos (as well as so healthy and so much smaller than I am now!). In answer to why I stopped running, I was never a natural runner, it never got to the point of being easy, so after finishing my goal, I had no purpose to putting my shoes on and going out, so I stopped. Its only now that I really regret that, so I want to start again, and this time continue it (I think I'm having a bit of a hard time realising I'm going to be 40 in 3 years, and if I don't change something soon I'm going to be fat and 40

I stopped because I moved house and had a 5 hour commute, 2.5 hours each way door to door.

This was 6 years ago so I'll be starting from scratch, although I have been walking, 10k steps every day of Feb and 13.5k steps every day so far in March. And I've been on the cross trainer.

quarentini · 20/03/2021 11:05

I would love to do it but I tried it and hated it .
I just couldn't get past week 3

redcandlelight · 20/03/2021 11:09

wrt running being 'easy'

isn't the whole point of strenuous exercise that it isn't easy?

Haggisfish · 20/03/2021 11:11

Oooh I’m tempted. I like running but can never manage very far.

Mucklemore · 20/03/2021 11:18

I started 3 weeks ago. I'm quite enjoying it but I remember from last time finding the sudden jump up quite hard.

Haggisfish · 21/03/2021 20:01

I did my first run today! With jo Wiley!

ElizaLaLa · 21/03/2021 20:08

Well done!

Shaggervalley · 24/03/2021 22:17

Well done Haggis!! I have been a bit unwell with my first Covid Jag but hope to start tommorow.

Haggisfish · 24/03/2021 22:49

You can do it! I did my second run yesterday and am planning my third run tomorrow.
