Motivation for early morning exercise

I signed up for a 5 day live class and it's been great, I'm up when my alarm goes and straight into the class. How do I maintain this after the five days when I'm planning on switching to YouTube?

No one can see me on the live class anyway, and it's recorded to watch later, but for some reason I'm up 75 mins earlier than normal for the live version.

I'd like to keep this and make it a permanent habit, but I can see me hitting snooze and putting it off till later.

Any tips?

I've been sleeping unusually deeply in the past year and am now at the stage of using a vibrating alarm on my watch, followed by an audible alarm on my phone at the opposite side of the room so I have to get out of bed to stop it.

This is a good time of year to estanlish the habit as it gets easier with lightee mornngs. In winter I use a lumie lamp.

I get up early to cycle as it’s often the only time I have. Motivation to get up and out in the cold, dark and rain is perhaps much tougher. But I do the following and somehow always get out!!

I lay my kit out ready in the spare room the night before - you could have yours ready.

I bring my bike in the night before - you could have your iPad or whatever setup and ready (could you pre-load the workout the night before and press pause, so all you need to do is press play?).

I have my coffee machine set up the night before, so I just need to turn it on for my double espresso! Pretty important pre any exercise so you get that caffeine buzz and kick to fire you through your session.

I have breakfast snacks ready the night before, so just need to eat... it’ll often be something super tasty which helps me to get out of bed to eat.

I have nice food ready for my return - you could set something yummy aside for after your session.

I have my drinks bottles filled the night before and ready on my bike - you could fill your water bottle the night before and leave it where you’ll exercise ready.

Basically I’ve found the better prepared I am, the easier it is to get on with it/ keep motivated. I find that lots of small things (eg bike not ready, kit not ready) can add up and act as enough of a barrier for me to lose motivation and not bother.

If all the above has failed (everything is ready and waiting) and I’m considering just staying in bed... I focus on how bloody good it feels to be out on the bike and how great I’ll feel after. It’s rare this doesn’t work for me!! You could focus on a bit of the class you love and how amazing you’ll feel after.

I have to get everything ready the night before and have been known to sleep in my sports bra just so it is one less thing to do in the morning. Drink ready to go, shoes, alarm set. Usually it works, this morning I just turned the alarm off and negotiated with myself I’d do it later - I did! Be kind to yourself, some days are harder than others so don’t give up if it doesn’t always go to plan.

I if noted the alarm this morning, but did get going 10 mins later, mostly from guilt Grin

I've even been for my lunch time walk which I really didn't want to go, but of course it feels great when. Walking through the trees.

Some great tips, thank you all

Well done! Especially when it is light earlier it is good to get up and wake up with the day.
