Open water swimming - insurance?

Don't know if this is right place to ask?

My family run a fitness business for which we have insurance. We want to start a group which involved a dip, paddle or short swim in the sea, followed by a workout and a coffee.

(Once restrictions have lifted)

Do we need any additional insurance? We have health and safety forms which need to be signed before attending.

This would likely not be an insurable event and would be 'at your own risk'. Best to ask your current liability insurance provider

That's what we thought. Speaking to them tomorrow.

It's not a full swimming event, a mile out to sea, just a dip for 10 mins

Yes, you would. The venue I swim at have liability insurance, and it covers water quality testing, lifeguarding, requirements at different temperatures etc. For sub 11'C swimming, they have increased requirements inc recommendations to get an ECG, a compulsory training session on cold water shock etc, and other restrictions

Even just for a dip in the sea?

You'd need to ask your insurer - but hypothermia and cold water shock really shouldn't be underestimated. Other things will depend on the setting, timing etc
