Gymwear

I’ve been reading various threads on the topic of gymwear on Mumsnet. After lots of tooing and frowing (what is frowing? Hmm) about Fabletics, I have taken the plunge and ordered the Anywhere High Waisted and the High Waisted Motion 365. I was reassured by a poster saying that she paid for her ‘membership’ through with Paypal, so that when she cancelled, she could also cancel the payment subscription with Paypal. I have been stalking Sweaty Betty for weeks. I am happy to pay more for quality (I have an NHS 25% discount available with them), but I’m currently loosing weight. Consequently, it would be daft to pay too much for leggings just yet. I have also ordered a pair of black leggings from Ryderwear - a brand I don’t hear much about! They were reduced to £32.

Does anyone here have recent experience of these brands and particular types of leggings? The threads I have read are one year old at least. Some much longer ago.

I love my fabletics leggings. I have six pairs now. Cancelling is no problem, you have to go into a chat but it's no hassle. I have six pairs now, I resign up with a different email to get the offer.

Good plan!

I love fabletics to. The customer service is rubbish but I went in knowing that and the leggings are great.

I bought 2 pairs last June and will get two more next month.

If you want excellent quality at a low price (because you are losing weight - well done! - and might not be that size for long) then try Decathlon. Easily the best VFM, good quality fabrics (don't go see-thru), pockets, drawstrings

I think Sainsbury is the best of the supermarket ranges.

Go to the more expensive price point you are considering when you expect to be a size for rather longer? Assuming of course that you dint becine a complete Decathlon convert, like so many have before you

AnnieSnap · 02/02/2021 12:31

I’ll take a look at Decathlon

Although not the cheapest, I love Ryderwear stuff. Always look great and are soooo comfy Smile

onedayatatime73 · 03/02/2021 09:19

I wanted to ask the same question. I can't afford sweaty Betty really but have read so much about them I wanted to know if it's worth investing in one pair?

AuntieStella · 03/02/2021 10:24

No, Sweaty Betty are perfectly good, but they're not stand out in any way. And if you can't afford them there are plenty of high performing and much cheaper alternatives.

Even if you can afford them, there are higher performance for the price (depending on what you want them for, but really good compression gear is noticeable different) Or ethical brands so you can also feel smug in the same quality

fellrunner85 · 03/02/2021 19:33

What @AuntieStella said! (I often find myself saying that Grin)

My favourite kit is:
Ronhill for proper distance running or fell running. The stuff is really well made and properly thought through (pockets in the right places, hoods that fit, good stretchy fabric, nice prints - all boxes ticked)

Then Decathlon for everything aside from shoes and sports bras, because it's cheap and brilliant.

Rapanui for ethical stuff for less high-intensity exercise. Looks good, fits well and is great for everyday wear.

I have loads of leggings from M&S Good Move. They are reasonably priced - usually £25 - good quality thick material and generally have a side pocket for my phone. Bigger sizes available as well.

Happytentoes · 03/02/2021 19:51

M&S good move or Under Armour are my current favourites. I do have some Sweaty Betty and LuLu Lemon which were bought as gifts by DH and they are lovely, but not any better that the cheaper ones and probably better for summer than Feb in Scotland.

Sideorderofchips · 03/02/2021 20:52

I love my lucy lockets for exercise

piefacedClique · 03/02/2021 21:03

I have a few pairs of sweaty bettys and they really are worth it.... Ive worn Matalan leggings for the last few years with the off pair of Nike too but my sweatys are lush. I have 3 pairs of 7/8 powers.... 1 black and 2 leopard. I also picked up some bras last week and they were different prices depending on size and colour so it’s worth having a virtual rummage! I heard on the peloton ladies page I think that the shop in Bicester village will tell you which styles they have available in your size and post them out to you if you ring them! Lots of bargains to be had apparently

Has anyone any experience of the niche brands that seem to pop in my Instagram all the time? LNDR, Ernest Leoty, Wone, Silou, Prism... never heard of any of them but I like the looks!

doadeer · 03/02/2021 21:08

I have many many leggings.

For me fabletics are 8 out of 10 and Sweaty Betty are 10 out of 10 but my mum who's a yoga teacher only wears fabletics, she doesn't rate SB as much as I do.

I love their shiny disco type ones 🤣

fruitpastille · 04/02/2021 08:14

M&S good move are great. Drawstring, side pocket and back zip pocket plus good fabric. Just got some decathlon ones for 12.99 which are fine but not as nice. I have been nearly seduced by sweaty betty but I can never justify the cost. I'd rather use the money for something else.

I've got the blue colour, on the link below they are absolutely my favourite I would wear them every single day if I could

I have just got a pair of the M&S Goodmove. I’m pleased with them and the price means that when they become a bit big, it won’t be heartbreaking.

Yay another Good Move leggings fan ! I really need to stop buying them but they keep bringing all these cool patterns out Blush.

Chocolateteabag · 05/02/2021 15:49

I just did a big SB order with a 20% off code - got 5 pairs to try and sent them all back
I have chubby legs I grant you but they all made my legs look heftier because of where the seams lie
The running leggings (most expensive) were see through (this is in the feedback for them but I still wanted to try them)

My RonHill leggings are at least cut with an inner seam so slightly less sausagey

I guess SB suit lots of people but they were a little too emperors new clothes for me

Aha85 · 06/02/2021 08:48

I heartily recommend Queenieke leggings
www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=queenieke+leggings&tag=mumsnetforu03-21

The quality is brilliant (completely squat proof!) and they are so much cheaper than Sweaty Betty and others.

I have too many pairs of running tights, from SB to Aldi.
I love my SB ones, and I know they'll last, but my Aldi ones are the cats pyjamas! They have reflective dots, ankle zips, zip key pocket, drawer string waist, triangle crotch - everything a proper running legging needs. They were less than a tenner.

So I suggest looking out for aldi Thursday specials
