Meeting personal trainer outside in lockdown

Just wondering if there are any personal trainers on here who know the guidance on this?

Looking at the rules if I meet 1 other person outside for exercise it's ok as long as we distance. So in my head being outside for exercise with a PT twice a week is ok. However I feel like I'm missing something.

I know there is more risk being outside with a PT then inside on my own but I really need to do something about exercise and my health (physical and mental) at the moment and with being furloughed it feels like this is the perfect time to try and establish healthier habits.

I think this is allowed Smile

It is allowed, can’t find it now because phone about to die but look in sport England - it’s allowed as long as distant, in public place (not private garden) & not sharing equipment

Splodgetastic · 29/01/2021 13:29

It is allowed. There is a specific piece of guidance saying that PTs can work subject to the above considerations.

Gym near me has a PT who meets clients outside and they do weights on the car park. Don't think I'd like that but each to their own!!

Thanks. Yeah don't think I'd like the car park but a park I think would work.

Copied from sports England:

Can I take part in a coaching/personal training (PT) session in a public outdoor space/garden?

Personal training/coaching can continue one-on-one.

Sessions must take place in a public outdoor spaces, as long as social distancing is maintained. Sessions can’t take place in private gardens.

Any coaches or trainers undertaking sessions should ensure they’re complying with relevant national governing body safeguarding policies and procedures and conduct a thorough risk assessment before engaging in any sessions. This should include particular consideration for under-18s and vulnerable adults.

Public outdoor places include:

parks, beaches, countryside accessible to the public, forests
public gardens (whether or not you pay to enter them)
the grounds of a heritage site
playgrounds.

We did car park sessions at our gym over summer when you could meet up to 6, all with our own little 'station' of equipment/weights etc that we'd disinfect after class - would kill for that now!

I think it is a good idea - but I would make sure your PT is on the same page as you about social distancing and covid generally, so you start from a position of trust. I was having 1: 1 last February and my PT turned out to believe all sorts of nonsense, and has been on SM breaking the law throughout - I won't be going within 20 feet of him for some time, never mind six!
