Bikram yoga question

When I look at the Bikram yoga poses listed, I was wondering, do you do them all and then repeat on the other side?

Or do you repeat as you go e.g. do one standing head to knee, then do it on the other leg? Thank you.

Many of them only need to be done once as they involve both sides at the same time eg locust, child's pose, bow, etc but where you have one side eg tree and standing balances etc, then do the other side straight afterwards so R then L then move on to the next posture.

Thank you!

Good luck.

I teach yoga but the Bikram sequence really is hard work!

Thank you

Do you teach Bikram?

There are definitely poses in there I can't do. I have a friend who started it being not flexible and she can do them all after a a few years!

I'm quite flexible in the first place but am very cautious on backbends due to an injury.

No I don't, I teach strong Hatha really. I don't like having to teach a specific sequence of asanas - I change the poses depending on how I feel, who I am teaching and try to do something different each lesson, sometimes I focus on forward folds for example - they are yin energy or backbends - yang or I might concentrate on poses for a particular chakra. I teach lots of different fitness classes as well as yoga but always like to do my own planning and use my own creativity/sequencing if that makes sense.

I struggle at times with balance poses myself especially if on a soft floor or if tired.

Re backbends you can do some gentler ones like hasta tadasana - a gentle backbend in a mountain poses rather than stronger ones such as locusts and bow and camel.

I do love inversions though and even something like legs against the wall is a big stress reliever calming your central nervous system and lowering blood pressure although not a part of the Bikram sequence.

That sounds great.

I have never found legs up the wall helpful.

One of the reasons I thought I'd try the bikram sequence is a friend thought it might help with insomnia. She thinks it solves every problem. I do workout but never do yoga for more than about 30 mins so it will be interesting!

I definitely can't fit it in till Friday, so I have time to decide if it's a good idea! 😂
