Running two consecutive days for C25K is it ok?

Hi I am on week 3 C25K and loving it! Due to childcare/ work is it ok to do the odd week where I do two consecutive days of running? I want to keep my motivation going and to grab every opportunity I can to get a run in when my MIL can have my daughter. I am currently furloughed but when I go back to work my days off are Thursday, Fridays and the weekend so I am thinking I could run Thursday, Friday and Sunday. Do you think this will be ok if I am resting Mon/Tues/Wed? Tbh I’ll prob be furloughed till the end of the program the way things are looking 🤣🤷‍♀️

It’s better to leave the day but see how it goes. As long as no pain it’s fine-I do try not to do it though as it does affect my knees and plantar fasciitis.

I suppose I could just do it twice a week but worried that I will lose motivation.. I’ll see how it goes

I think you will probably be fine. There's ideal, and there's manageable. You have to make it work for you.

See how it feels, especially if you weren't too much at the couch end to begin. Week 3 is a reasonable point in that your body is getting used to it but not at the longer runs yet.

One option is to repeat an easier run on one of the days to not over do it. It would build you up although not make obvious progress through the programme. Beyond C25k, runners tend to mix their runs up anyway.

I would give it a go, as long as you’re not in any pain or discomfort after the first run. Glad you’re enjoying it!
I completed C25K a couple of months back, and am furloughed and home schooling children so I do a short run most days on their lunch break, it works fine for me. Ideally I would do two or three longer runs but we are not living in ideal times!

I am furloughed and homeschooling but my husband works offshore so I have been making the most of him being around so I can get out. He is away tomorrow for 10 weeks 😭 so I’m hoping my MIL can have my daughter while I get a run in 😁

Oh no, that sounds tough! You will definitely need regular runs for a bit of time to yourself.

EmmaStone · 24/01/2021 12:22

Yes you're likely to be fine as the programme is such gentle progression. We did it with DS over the summer, and because I'm mean, I made him do each week on consecutive days, getting a day off in between weeks. So we'd do the 3 runs of each week consecutively, then a day off, then 3 days consecutively etc. Meant we completed the programme quicker, and was actually easier getting out and doing it when it almost became part of the morning routine. Caveat - DH runs anyway, I occasionally run, but keep fit in other ways, so we were less likely to get injured.

Is it possible you could do a run at dinner time once you are back at work? I used to get a 40 min dinner so as long as I changed quickly I could fit a 30 min blast in. Also do you have any wriggle room at the start/ end of your working day - eg could you part run to work (park car up a suitable distance away/ collect at dinner/ or get to work a bit early to run before?). The majority of my exercise used to be done as part of a commute. I used to have changes of clothes and extra food stashed in the office to accommodate it.

@noodlmcdoodl a run in my break would be great but it is a 30 min break and I am responsible for some vulnerable adults who I have to have my lunch with too its as good as a working lunch! I’ll just need to grab what days I can and see how it goes I wish I could do it every second day but I think it will be a bit more sporadic 😊

*@Halfpint2017 * I am on week 3 and was thwarted in my Monday run by snow and couldn't run on Tuesday as it was still there! Did my day 1 run today and plan to run tomorrow and Friday. I'm sure it will be OK - don't forget Eddie Izzard is running a marathon every day in January! I'm sure we will be Ok with under 3 miles Grin.
