As someone switching from a road cycling / turbo training to a spin bike do you still need to wear proper cycling kit e.g cycling shorts or can you get away with just normal gym kit?

It’s more comfortable to wear cycling gear. Padded shorts/chamois are useful! Clipping in is easier too.

Depends on the saddle. I use proper shoes to clip in as that makes a huge difference, but regular gym kit. I get pretty hot and sweaty so look for good wicking clothing, but a typical session is around an hour so chamois not so necessary.

I wear regular gym kit and cycling shoes to clip in and I always have a towel to hand to mop up the sweat!

Thanks for the replies. Will try a few different options and see which is more comfortable for me.

Having tried regular gym kit I have found wearing regular gym leggings gives me chafing which I don't get when wearing proper padded cycling shorts. Has anybody else experienced this?

If you've got padded cycling shorts then wear them. I don't even have a bike but i bought a pair for spin, the seats are like sitting on a razor!

I don't wear padded shirts for spin, although a bit sore the first time you soon get used for it. I don't wear padded shorts for short bike rides either though
