Hi, I'm tired of being tired and really want to get fitter. Usually I would head to the gym but thats not an option. I'm looking for ideas on how to get fit during lockdown, what do you do and what would be a typical week for you.

OP posts:
sanityisamyth · 19/01/2021 15:32

Joe wicks workouts 5x a week. Also going running with DS7.

bigbluebus · 19/01/2021 15:38

@tatutata No we couldn't get a Concept 2 as they were out of stock everywhere - except on ebay where they were selling for way in excess of their normal retail price. We've gone for a JTX ignite air which I read is the next best thing - so I'm hoping it's good. Not bothered so much about linking up with tech.

PolloDePrimavera · 19/01/2021 15:38

@YesThisIsMe

Ring Fit on the Nintendo Switch, Jillian Michaels on DVD, Couch to 5K (the BBC app with Michael Johnson’s lovely voice).
Michael is just the best!! I did C25K with him (well you know what I mean) and didn't exactly enjoy it, but worked my way through it. His voice is gorgeous.

I’m still working 3/4 days a week ( out of the house 13/14 hours on these days) I don’t go the gym and vary my workouts. But on days off I: spin x2 ( free you tube) yoga x 3/4 a week, resistance bands workouts aim for 2 ( free you tube) and/or long walks when weather permits.

It varies dependant on my shifts and how tired I am.

PolloDePrimavera · 19/01/2021 15:40

I'm running with DS8, occasional Joe Wicks, signed up for strong women on Stylist.co.uk but haven't done yet and am going to try Camp Fit with Carl Harrison this evening. I work full time at home but I need to stretch my legs. Have a dog too but we share walks.

tatutata · 19/01/2021 15:40

@bigbluebus haha maybe I should stick it up for sale for some cash! It is super hard work and for some reason is killing my hip joints, but I might be getting a bit competitive with myself as I still remember my splits from my rowing days (and keep forgetting that was 20 years ago).

StillDumDeDumming · 19/01/2021 15:52

I use Team Body Project. Lots of free stuff before you need to pay for a subscription and free workouts come out quite often. Lots for different levels and quite ordinary people in the vids. I'm hooked.

TwirpingBird · 19/01/2021 15:53

Brisk walks, yoga with Arienne, Joe Wicks PE with joe, which is surprisingly hard (both free on YouTube)

AuntieStella · 19/01/2021 16:27

RED January (not literally running every day, but active every day). Very motivating to tick then all off.

I count a run (any length), a walk of over 3 miles (ideally more) or at least 30mins of HIIT or 45mins of Pilates or yoga. Lots available online (and I can just about push Joe Wicks to my minimum time if I add a good warm and and also cool down stretches)

CMOTDibbler · 19/01/2021 16:30

Walk or run everyday, Joe Wicks DVD every evening except one with DS, swim in the river (am acclimatised, swim with a buddy etc) one day a week.

BogRollBOGOF · 19/01/2021 18:02

This week I've set the 7yo up on C25k, take him to the park/ field/ mudpit. Let him dash around the open space randomly.

I set up on a picnic bench to observe him, and take advantage of the bench and concrete surrounding to do Mr Motivator videos with my phone/ earphones.

10yo just seems to loiter in bushes, but he's out of the house.

actiongirl1978 · 19/01/2021 18:08

I do PMA fitness on YouTube - I worked through all his videos in lockdown #1 and I was pretty ripped by July last year! I did start from a decent level of fitness though.

I also do joe wicks sometimes and Bodyfit by Amy, her workouts are longer but really work. I do her TRX workouts sometimes as I have straps attached to my garage walls.

Also I walk the big dog at least 3 miles a day over fields and I'm constantly on my feet at home providing a rolling restaurant service and looking after our puppy.

RainbowCookie · 19/01/2021 18:29

Nike app 3 times a week it’s free, I’m following the lean fitness plan which you can tailor to your fitness levels, equipment and number of days to train.
I also run twice a week and on rest days I do some yoga with Adrienne or go for a LISS walk.

EmmaStone · 19/01/2021 19:05

A variety of things!

We've got a treadmill, spin bike and various weights in our garage 'gym', which definitely helps.

So - Peloton app spinning rides (my health insurance has provided a free trial, but it would normally be £12.99 a month, which I think is good value, loads of workouts - tread, outdoor, weights, yoga etc)

Couch 2 5k with DS in summer, we've both taken eye off the ball as autumn became winter. Am trying to get him to take it up again, even if in treadmill.

Long country walks (live rurally).

Yoga with Adriene - doing her January 30 days that she does every Jan (been doing the Jan programmes for 4/5 years).

Weekly yoga Zoom class with my normal yoga class.

PT sessions fortnightly - currently on hold, but he's done me a home programme (which has killed my legs this week 😂).

I did 5 weeks of PE with Joe (without children 🙄) during the first lockdown.

I'm, I'm not very good at doing the same stuff - I can't bring myself to run 3 times a week for example - so I like all the variety. However, I've exercised at home for YEARS, haven't belonged to a gym for over 15 years, so I guess I'm fairly motivated.

Jemimapuddleduk · 19/01/2021 19:11

Peloton bike 4 or 5 times a week and then also trying to do peloton core strength/yoga/Pilates a few times a week too. Dog walks inbetween.

Hollywhiskey · 19/01/2021 19:32

Running and walking every day. When the weather gets better and the evenings get lighter so my husband can take my toddlers out to the park or on bikes in the evenings after work I want to do some weights, I did last summer, but I can't do that with little kids around.
I put everything on Strava and am motivated by Strava badges, getting PBs on segments as well as distances and how many steps I can do. 15,000 is a minimum.

PolarnOPirate · 19/01/2021 19:38

Exercise bike
Walk/run in woods opposite our house
Paid for online subscriptions
YouTube videos - step aerobics and tabata mainly

noodlmcdoodl · 19/01/2021 21:36

Cycling - did lots pre-lockdown so nothing has changed in that respect. I’ve had to take DS out for more trailer rides than usual when we’d normally have gone to soft play or swimming. I have splurged on a Tacx Neo (smart turbo trainer) and subscription to Zwift... it’s the sustained period of sub-zero temperatures that have led to this though (I never cycle on the road if it’s icy). It’s probably one of the best gadgets I’ve ever bought as my bike moves/ rocks on the trainer so I don’t get the arse pain/ flap mash which I got with my rollers or a dumb trainer. It simulates gradients by altering the resistance automatically. I’ve been happily knocking out 2-3 hour rides on it. I’ve found Zwift extremely addictive and I’ve only been free-riding and following a training plan. I’ve not even done a group ride or race yet. I’m so taken by it, I’ve not cycled outside on warmer days as I’ve wanted to go on Zwift.

sugarlost · 20/01/2021 15:03

Lucy Wyndham Read... had not worked out in years but started on her beginners series a few weeks ago and can't stop exercising throughout the day now ;)

TallTowerFan · 20/01/2021 15:08

We bought a crosstrainer during lockdown one. I alternate between that and running around our local park with ds.

pomegranatefudge · 20/01/2021 22:19

I tend to do something 6 days a week and try and vary it so I don't get bored. I miss the gym so much but do enjoy home workouts once I get going.

In Lockdown 1 I ran 3/4 times a week and did Les Mills Body Pump 2/3 times a week. Noticed a massive improvement in my fitness and shape.

Then few months back at the gym really pushing strength training and now:

2 sessions a week outside with PT. One is usually HiiT style with strength focus and the second is boxing.

I use the Peloton app to spin a couple of times a week (not a peloton bike)

I run a couple of times a week two and then will often do a kettlebells or HiiT workout at home.

Obviously I don't do each thing 2/3 times each week or I'd be doing too much but I like to have a real variety so I can always find something to do whatever my mood!

Toffeefee23 · 20/01/2021 22:23

Cycle outside
Cycle at home (turbo trainer & Zwift app)
Lots of walking

Hazelnutlatteplease · 20/01/2021 22:23

Les mills on demand 4-5 days a week. Mostly pump and step. 40 min walk at least 5 days a week.

TheBestSpoon · 20/01/2021 22:31

Fitness Blender. They're on YouTube, but I think their website is better - you can search by video length, type and difficulty. As the name implies, it's a mix of everything - some HIIT, some cardio, some (dumbbell based) weights, some and, some yoga/Pilates/stretching. It's all free, but you can buy (for

BejeweledCrocs · 27/01/2021 21:38

Someone's mention of a step has made me want to resurrect my Cher fitness video from days gone by!

I have a ring fit which is fun

When weather improves I'll restart c25k.

I have an exercise bike but havent really been on it. Must do better.
