Good running/trail shoes for plantar fasciitis?

Hi everyone - been running for a couple of years but in the last 2 months have suddenly started getting terrible heel pain in my right foot. Research seems to show that this is more than likely plantar fasciitis Sad. I run through woodland and the local Common so not road surfaces.

I'm looking at various inserts, already had some orthotics and special socks but this all seemed to start from one run a couple of months ago when I didn't wear my running socks and since then it has been really painful after I run.

I have always worn Brooks Cascadia 13 trail shoes but they need replacing and I'm wondering if I need something with more cushioning maybe? Internet searches are sending my down a bit of a rabbit hole so thought I would check if anyone has similar symptoms and would recommend a particular shoe that is comfy? Appreciate all feet are different but would really appreciate any recommendations before spending on a new pair! Thanks in advance!

Nike Wildhorse?

Brooks Cascadia 15?

I'm enjoying my new Hokas, if that helps? Also had plantar fascitis. Improving now

See I have never heard of Hokas, there seem to be loads of brands that I'm only just discovering!

I'll give them a look! Thanks!

Where are you? I always go to a runners shop that checks your running action and recommends shoes (and maxes you run up and down the lane like a crazy person). Much better to have someone else see you in action and advise.

Hoka are marmite for trails - if you are going somewhere really rough then they can be an ankle injury waiting to happen as the sole is thick.

But if you're on beaten earth paths that have the odd root, and basically grassy common land, you'll be fine. And they are the most cushioned shoe you can get

I really think it is worth going to a running shop if you can. I niggled an achilles tendon on my foot and after rest, went to a proper running shop. I found out I had really wide feet and my trainers were too narrow. I bought the pair they recommended (New Balance D width) and have been fine since.

Thanks very much all - sounds like I should get properly assessed at a running shop. There's a place not far that does it (whenever they are able to re open).

Your point on the Hoka is a good one @AuntieStella as I did roll my ankle quite badly a while back although they seem to be much stronger now. It can be a bit treacherous when all the fallen leaves prevent you from seeing clearly what's on the ground in front of you.
It is a lot of beaten earth but also some very uneven and muddy parts/couple of gradients and a fair few stony/rocky bits so I'm struggling whether to lean more heavily towards cushioning or stability!

This getting older malarky is no fun, I bet 15-20 years ago I could have run in any old trainers. Now I have so much kit specifically to stop different bit from hurting! Grin
Thanks for the advice all!

see a physio.
look if you can find someone with running as specialism.
they can advise on running style/gait and recommend what to look for in shoes.

My osteo is an ex athlete (which is pretty useful) and the store I go to is staffed by all runners so they can advise me - I’ve been wearing saucony for years and DH gets ONS.

Yes to a physio, if they're runners themselves, they may even be able to advise on brands for shoes (mine did). My PF issue though was down to super tight calf muscles (diagnosed by a podiatrist actually). I had to do lots of stretching, and massaging of my calves daily, but it worked and the PF eventually disappeared.
