C25k with bunions?

I hate the way my figure's gone post menopause. I used to be slim with a fast metabolism. Now at 5' 6" I'm 13.5 stone and I hate it. My fitness isn't great either.
I've always loved walking, both for mind and body but I'm not doing it often enough. I don't have the time to walk 5 miles every day but I reckon I could fit in a run 3 times a week.

I want to use the next lockdown to start my diet/exercise regime but I'm wondering if running is a stupid idea if you have bunions. My bunions are not painful but are quite bad. My feet are really wide and I have problems just finding any shoes to fit. I live in trainers or Ugg type boots. I cannot find any running shoes to fit and have tried all the main sports shops Confused. So if you're a runner with bunions, tell me how you manage!

I have bunions but they sound smaller than yours as I just wear normal trainers. Some brands like On do a wide fit so you could try those. Get blister plasters for any bits that rub.

I wear skechers at work, but they might be better for walking, I don't run! Lace up fit me better, the slip on ones aren't wide enough.

I have been known to wear rieker shoes because I can get them on, my friend said they looked like something a German nun would wear.
I used to have dainty, narrow feet....

My bunion doesn't sound as large as yours (but unfortunately, mine can be painful at times, nothing yet to be concerned about though, so fingers crossed...). I would do a bit of research into various running shoes' widths. ASICS and Nike tend to be narrow I believe, although men's' trainers are wider. A proper running shop would be able to advise on which brands to try.

Hey @PandoraRocks. I’m a physio and have seen lots of excellent runners who happen to have bunions. They’re funny things; some can look awful and be painless. Others are mild and very sore. I would suggest doing some gluteal (bum) exercises in the build up as that will help with the load going through your feet. Essentially though I don’t think you’ll know until you try. Kinetic revolution is a good running website that has lots of free strength videos.
