Knee pain after running - is this normal?

Hi all,
I started running in June this year. I’ve always been fairly unfit so at the beginning I was not able to run for longer than 1 minute at the time (!). I followed the C25 app and I’m now running 5k non-stop once/twice a week. I’m very proud of this, and really want to continue. However, for the last two month I’ve been getting pains in my knees (both of them!), after each run. Sometime the pain keeps me awake. It only happens after running, and it goes away after resting for 3-4 days. I phoned the doctors a few weeks ago and was just told to take ibuprofen, but wasn’t told to stop running... does anyone know if this is relatively normal, and if it will go away if I persevere? For info, I warm yo before each run and stretch when I finish...

Great news OP! Honestly my physio was a saviour. Fingers crossed for you that you find a good one!

Thank you! I’ve got an appointment with a physio on Wednesday, and I’ve delayed the gait analysis until after I see the physio. Fingers crossed they can help ! x

All good advice.
If you go on the sportshoes.com website they have advice on how to check your gait. Depending on if you are normal/over pronating or whatever, they have a shoe finder tool that will pick out trainers that are suitable for you. But do ensure that you change your trainers every 250 to 300 miles. Even though they may look fine the cushioning will be severely diminished in the sole.
I have a sack full of 300 mile used trainers which look great but are only fit for gardening !
Do let us know how you get on.

Kt tape can be great as a short term fix for niggles, while you’re waiting to see a physio or whoever. I always tape my ankle at the moment as I’m strengthening it up after a sprain - it gives me a bit more confidence and my ankle some gentle support.

Had to cancel the gait analysis appointment because I’m waiting for the results of a Covid test. I have an appointment with the physio tomorrow but I’ll probably have to postpone that too as I haven’t received the results yet... weird times ...
