Exercise is making me feel ill

Ive always walked a couple of miles most days and enjoyed it but realise this isn’t really enough to get the heart pumping. I started running and have improved but I feel bloody awful for a few days afterwards. I’ve tried to progress to 5k and did one run last week in 36 minutes. Instead of feeling full of energy I feel much worse and feel weak for days after. Should I just accept that cardio isn’t for me? I’m slim build and don’t need to loose weight. I’ve been to the drs in the oases with fatigue symptoms and bloods and ecg all ok.

Are you building up slowing with the C25K app?

BecomeStronger · 02/12/2020 21:59

Yes, it's important to build up slowly and give your body a chance.

Bagelsandbrie · 02/12/2020 21:59

You’re not just trying to run non stop without any build up to it are you? Try Couch to 5k as previous poster suggests.

DangerMouse17 · 02/12/2020 22:02

Do c25k like others suggest, take a rest day or two between each run. Make sure you eat well and drink plenty of liquids!

I agree with what everyone else has said. When your lungs are challenged it can make you feel physically sick, your body takes time to adjust.

Also, Are you sweating a lot when you run or/and have a particularly clean diet? In the past I've suffered from lack of salt which made me feel really terrible (headachy, sick, no energy) if I'd done more mileage/tougher than usual and had been eating 'well'. My fiance suggested that was the problem and I didn't believe him until he made me a glass of water with a little salt and it instantly perked me up a bit.

Are you eating/drinking enough? Not just on run days, I feel it if I'm slack on drinking the day before or don't eat well for a few days. And I don't eat a lot of of protein (not keen on eggs or cheese, don't eat much meat) so even though I don't run miles, I started having a protein shake after most runs and this seems to have helped as well. I might not bother if I know I've eaten a fair bit but otherwise it just seems to keep me boosted. Otherwise the main thing is staying hydrated all the time,

Go slower!!! Aim for 45 minute 5k, with walking and running. And stretch afterwards.

what do you mean you felt awful afterwards, which symptoms did you have that were awful?
