Plank Challenge

Is anyone up for a daily plank challenge?!

I hate them but I need to keep working on core strength as I have a very painful back issue and I would love some company!

Where ever you are starting from is totally fine even if it's 5 seconds! ... The only rule is you need to plank every day and you can only increase or maintain length.

Anyone with me?

@Cheesewine
Hahaha 🤣 if you positioned the glass with a straw your could sip your gin as you plank

@doadeer hmmm think that might be tomorrows plank challenge lol. Need to start some additional work outs come Monday. Got until April to drop 2 dress sizes.

beela · 12/09/2020 06:50

Day 2: 26 seconds done.

I think I could do longer, but I've decided to build up gradually.

Looking forward to my washboard stomach in a week or so Grin

Cheesewine · 12/09/2020 15:53

Crap.. I'm on the gin again report back later.

doadeer · 12/09/2020 18:24

Phew I did day 2

I didn't increase as I felt knackered but I didn't go lower!

1 min 15

This was me at the end

Just did day one. Started with 1 minute

pawpawpawpaw · 13/09/2020 06:45

Starting today. Did 1min this morning and 1min tonight. Like you OP I've got a painful back problem. I got the lockdown blues for a bit and slacked off my core work and now I'm trying to make up for it.

doadeer · 13/09/2020 08:47

Welcome @pawpawpawpaw

That's amazing starting at 1 min.

How's everyone getting on?

OP posts:
Bwlch · 13/09/2020 17:59

Started today. 2 minutes.

doadeer · 13/09/2020 18:17

Wow @Bwlch you're bossing it!

Do you have a goal in mind for 30 days?

OP posts:
doadeer · 13/09/2020 18:17

Any strategies for distraction?

Ten minutes. Not sure if I'll get there.

PotatoHead2020 · 13/09/2020 20:54

Well I missed yesterday, just plain forgot. But just about managed today - day 2: 36s

pawpawpawpaw · 13/09/2020 22:18

@doadeer

I often put a podcast on or watch a movie trailer just to stop me counting seconds. Distractions make the whole thing so much easier and sometimes when I feel like I don't have much more plank in me I'm surprised I've only got 10s to go. But it's only a minute anyway!
pawpawpawpaw · 14/09/2020 03:29

2 x 1min planks today. I was going to try to add a few seconds on each time but I'm going to stick with a minute for now. About halfway through I'm having to pop my bum up a few inches and reorganise my weight before returning to a low plank, I want them solid before I make them longer.
Op how are you getting on?

doadeer · 14/09/2020 08:42

I've had a bit of a difficult weekend I had to stop taking codeine so the pain has been crapppy again but I've managed Day 3 at 1mim 15 at 9pm last night... Need to to do it earlier on I was shattered! 🤣

I would like to gradually increase but same as @pawpawpawpaw I want to be strong at the length I am before I increase

It's amazing to think we will see some big improvements if we just stick with it!

PotatoHead2020 · 14/09/2020 11:59

Day 3: 42s done

Still managing elbow, straight arm and side planks atm but not sure for how much longer!

pawpawpawpaw · 14/09/2020 15:54

doadeer you have my sympathy. I was unable to sleep through the night for two years due to back pain (painful stiffness really) which would wake me about four hours in. Codeine and tramadol didn't help - probably fortunate that - but eventually naproxen + wedge pillow + knee support seemed to calm it down enough so that I was able to get some rest. I was already doing Pilates regularly when it started, physio wasn't much help. Good luck with your mri.

doadeer · 16/09/2020 13:43

Sorry everyone! I'm a bit behind

Day 4 done! 1 min 20

It was hell.

Is anyone still with me?

OP posts:
pawpawpawpaw · 16/09/2020 18:02

Yesterday I had a Pilates class and did two hours of kayaking (get her) so took the day off planks. Have taken an ibuprofen and once that kicks in it's back to planks today.

Well done on extra 20 seconds! Much respect, I could not do that.

Bwlch · 16/09/2020 20:25

Three minutes and (2 seconds) this evening.

doadeer · 16/09/2020 20:26

Duh! Bracket in the wrong place.

Cheesewine · 17/09/2020 13:21

Ok back at it 50 seconds today so far . Need to tighten up baby tummy.

Bwlch · 17/09/2020 14:26

Oh my god! You are a machine

I have actually done six minutes... but I was drunk and have not been able to replicate it sober. The alcohol must have dulled the pain.
