The weather where I live is starting to be a bit chillier at the beginning of my run now and I feel like I want another layer over my running t-shirt - what do people wear to keep the chill off before they've warmed up. Any old jumper? Specific running jumper? Other running top? Thanks

I've got an asics waterproof jacket but if it's not raining I wear long sleeved thicker Nike tops. I like the ones with thumbholes.

I usually go from short sleeved t-shirt, then a long sleeved t-shirt, then a warmer long sleeved top, and then thermal long sleeved top depending how cold it is. Or I might wear a baselayer with t-shirt over the top. I've got a couple of More Mile tops that have done me well over the years.

Dress for the second mile not the first as you'll soon warm up once you get moving. I wouldn't wear sweatshirt / hoody type fabric as it's really heavy when wet / sweaty. I tend to wear my waterproof jacket if it's cold and windy.

I usually tough it out till after it starts getting frosty then start with longer sleeves, then t shirt over long sleeves... when it gets really cold then a beanie hat, maybe a running jacket (usually only when wet)

Long sleeves I look for ones with thumb holes or built in mitts...

I’m a wimp at heading out in the cold, but love it when I get going and heat up very quickly. I run with a hydration vest that has space for an extra layer so I can shed as required. Depending on how cold, I start with a merino jumper or running jacket over a vest or long-sleeve tshirt, and generally lose the layer after ten minutes. I know some people don’t like running whilst carrying something, but I don’t notice it all any more and v handy for keys, water, phone etc too.

I like race t-shirts for a warm up layer, they're too baggy to wear on their own anyway. They're light enough to hang over my running belt. Another option is to loop past your house and dump in the front garden. I've also been known to stash one in a quiet hedge and retrieve on the way back.

Decathlon do a very fine fleece running top that is good for the first km.

I get too hot in any layers so I brave it out.

Still warm enough for just a tank top at the moment, I love September and October weather for running, feels perfect!

Brilliant, thank you everyone. I started running back in March (lockdown runner!) and I really love it

I had a revelation when I first tried running sleeves!

Brilliant for in between weather, when you need a bit more cover at the start but know you'll heat up
