As the last thread has been going so well, with graduates aplenty, here's a new thread for encouragement. Everyone is welcome!

Well done @SultanasofPing ! I have that to ‘look forward’ to Confused
Did w5r2 for the first time this afternoon, on the flat, and it was totally fine. So tomorrow I’ll try it uphill. Argh!

Cavagirl · 03/12/2020 08:10

So nice to see everyone doing well!
I've had a week off as had a v minor op & advice was no exercise, although that definitely hasn't stopped me feeling guilty...! So going to repeat W2 which was where I left off, might get out there today or most likely tomorrow. This thread has given me some well-needed inspiration!

minipie · 03/12/2020 09:17

I’m supposed to do w4 r3 today but it’s really cold and rainy out there!! Due to rain all day. Tomorrow looks drier but even colder. Any views on which is better...?!!

(Yes, I am a wuss)

Enb76 · 03/12/2020 09:25

I’m supposed to do w4 r3 today but it’s really cold and rainy out there!!

I run better times in the rain. Go for it and have a warm shower afterwards - you'll feel great!

Cavagirl · 03/12/2020 09:41

Haha @minipie my order of bad weather would be:

  1. mild & rain
  2. cold & dry
  3. cold & rain
  4. mild & wind
  5. cold rain wind
minipie · 03/12/2020 11:55

I’ve done it! Thanks to your push I managed to get out while it was still light ish rain rather than current torrent so am grateful for that.

I am amazed you both prefer rain to dry though!!

Cavagirl · 03/12/2020 12:31

Well done @minipie !
It's bucketing down here and I have a conference call this afternoon which I need to be smart for, so I'm putting off my resurgence tomorrow!
I definitely don't prefer rain to dry but do prefer rain to freezing cold!!! Grin

randomsabreuse · 03/12/2020 13:24

We have this but it rained first so it's slippery black ice on the not snowy which is definitely no running for me. Actual snow isn't such an issue but I don't risk it in the slippery stuff. Not worth the time off for an injury.

I'm happy to run in snow if I can get off road and it's not icy, don't mind most cold weather, much faster than hot weather, just completely refuse to run on icy tarmac!

Jibberoo · 03/12/2020 21:15

Wow that's snowy @randomsabreuse I'm jealous I wish it would snow even a bit down here.
@User258544 so impressed! I've been hitting exercise hard since March and nothing has changed Sadunfortunately I'm one of those people where weight loss for me is 99%diet and that's the bit I struggle with.
Was so excited that pools opened I went swimming yesterday instead of running- wow am I sore!! A month off swimming and my back has gone to mush. So I dragged myself out to do w6r3 today and boy was it hard. It's not even the 25mins that was difficult, I just didn't enjoy it from the 1st few minutes. Sadly I sneaked a peak at w7r1 and it's another 25mjns. Might have to wait to Monday and hope my mood changes. Does anyone else suffer boredom when running? I listen to music but it still feels like things drag without the intervals.

User258544 · 05/12/2020 16:57

Wk 2 Run3 done. Had a long break and back!. Wk 3 next. Not peeking.

LakeFlyPie · 06/12/2020 00:22

Well done user. Don't worry; if you've done the week before, you're ready for the week ahead even W5!
Jiberoo I haven't listened to music at all (other than the uninspiring offerings of NHS C25K). I listen to podcasts which pass the time, I've got a whole list of them to work through although DS1 (12) has become my running buddy over the last few weeks Smile Am really surprised that he's stuck at it through rain and increasingly chilly temperatures. It's a lovely thing to do together and I'm even finding I'm able to manage a bit of chat whereas I couldn't imagine getting a full sentence out in the early stages of C25K; never quite understood about the slow enough for it to be conversational pace, I was just going slow enough not to die!

schoolcook · 06/12/2020 09:24

Morning all.
I did 6K this morning and intend to add 1K each weekend so I can do a 10K at the beginning of the new year.

Just to prove I can Grin

I'll probably never do it again but I like to try things at least once.

I'm finding my wrists are numb in the cold so I've bought long sleeved fingerless gloves as I'm not ready to give up my vests just yet Smile

Cavagirl · 06/12/2020 09:47

Well done @schoolcook !
Your post has inspired me, I have been faffing and procrastinating because it looks soooo cold out there but it's time to haul myself out of my Sunday morning stupor and get on it! W2R2 here I come...!

Cavagirl · 06/12/2020 11:25

Hurrah! A bit more faffing but I did it and it's actually lovely out there! Grin

schoolcook · 06/12/2020 12:00

Yay well done @Cavagirl Grin
I had to be pushed out the door this morning even though I've never regretted a run yet Smile

Deepintheforest · 06/12/2020 13:26

You are all doing great I'm impressed at everyone running in British winter weather. I'm a complete wimp can't bring myself to go in the rain and it never really gets below 12 degrees.
I'm very pleased with myself this week, did another 30 min run on Friday and today decided to push myself to reach 5km, it took me 36 minutes and the last 0.5km I felt like I might actually keel over but somehow I did it.

minipie · 06/12/2020 14:24

Does anyone else suffer boredom when running? I listen to music but it still feels like things drag without the intervals.

I think this will be the case for me. I try to keep the route varied so I can say, keep going till the corner, ooh wonder what’s in that shop window, I’ll go see the wreaths on x street, hello ducks etc. But I still rely on the intervals for variety.

Podcasts might help but on the other hand I like the beat of the music! Hmmm

schoolcook · 06/12/2020 16:10

I listen to a trance album I bought years ago. It seems to just hit the spot.
I'd like to listen to a podcast but don't feel it would give me the same energy the music does.

Cavagirl · 06/12/2020 17:28

Does anyone have any recommendations for headphones?
I just have an old apple pair on a string which flaps about.... thinking of getting some wireless airpod style....

Misandrylovescompany · 06/12/2020 17:49

I spotted this and it gave me a wry smile so thought others on this thread might identify too. www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2020/dec/06/i-run-to-keep-fit-but-i-hate-it

schoolcook · 06/12/2020 18:50

@Cavagirl I use a big clumpy over the head pair of Bluetooth ones from Amazon they were just under £30. They serve as ear muffs too Grin

Cavagirl · 06/12/2020 20:32

INTERESTING!!!
What do you do with your phone? Mine is currently bouncing around in my pocket. Obviously as I am now pretty much a professional runner this is affecting my times 🤣 considering some kind of strap thing....to strap it somewhere?? (Where??) I am not cut out for outdoor exercise fashion apparently. Advice v welcome!!

schoolcook · 06/12/2020 20:54

@Cavagirl sugar pocket 3/4 length leggings from Amazon. About £16 a pair and I put keys in one and iPhone 11 in other. Used to have a 7 plus and that fitted fine too. They do long ones too but I feel weirdly constricted in them.

schoolcook · 06/12/2020 20:56

And after having bought 5 pairs so I always had plenty even if some are in the wash - I've discovered they tumble dry perfectly well and don't shrink Grin

Jibberoo · 06/12/2020 21:07

Well I tried a new route today - along tow paths and in mud. God it was hard. I had to walk 4 times for about 15sec each time w7r1 so a 25min run. I wasn't bored at least as I was trying to navigate so might try new courses near me. @LakeFlyPie thanks for suggestion on podcast - I think I'd get too distracted though. Plus the music keeps me going.
All week I have 25min runs so I'm hoping I won't struggle as much on the next ones. Felt really disappointed that I had to walk - I think the lack of time keeping is getting to me, before Jo Would tell me when I had run each 5mins which made it feel like I'm only running 5mins each time. Now even though I get some time keeping it feels off somehow. Maybe I'm just looki for excuses for a bad run Sad. Rest day tomorrow and then hopefully Tuesday will be better.
Hope you all had good runs and for those heading out tomorrow - wrap up warm!
