As the last thread has been going so well, with graduates aplenty, here's a new thread for encouragement. Everyone is welcome!

Hello. I was on the other thread. I'm on week 7 at the moment. I did W7R1 on Tuesday. Not very successful though because my usual route had been ploughed up by the farmer and it involved a schlep through massive, heavy bliss of mud. Will repeat the run tomorrow on a different route.

UnaOfStormhold · 27/08/2020 20:47

Thanks for the new thread. Hope it is soon just as full of new runners and graduates as the last!

Jfw82 · 27/08/2020 20:52

Am going to join- I did C25K started in Feb and ended in April then lockdown and small children brought me to a halt so am seeing September as a new term/new start and aiming to start again from week 4 I think.... anyone who has had a few months off did you start at beginning again? How quickly did it come back?

overwork · 27/08/2020 21:02

Oooh I got as far as week 7 in lockdown but then I stopped. I was think to start back from the beginning again ... anything would be better than nothing at the moment!

OceanPacific · 27/08/2020 21:10

@overwork I'd start at week 4 if I were you.

Alamindah · 27/08/2020 21:14

I am a graduate but I seem to have really gone backwards, so redoing some runs to ensure I keep going! Love the support in these threads!

overwork · 27/08/2020 21:33

Okay @OceanPacific you've convinced me, I'll give week 4 run 1 a go tomorrow!

TeamEponine · 27/08/2020 21:59

Hi everyone! And welcome to those (re)starting the magical c25k Grin

Sexnotgender · 27/08/2020 22:03

Lovely to see a new thread. I plodded round for 34 minutes this evening.

StripyHorse · 27/08/2020 22:03

I'm currently having a week off as we are on holiday (UK). Lots of walking done but no running. I am deciding whether to repeat w5, repeat a couple of runs, or carry on with w6. I am actually missing it....never in a million years did I think I would ever say that!

I think after a break the best thing to do is set out with a timer but without the C25K audio and do some run-walk intervals based on how you feel. Then find the week that best matches what you were able to manage.

I'm in the same place as you :) I did W7R1 yesterday. I find it more mentally hard now. At least with intervals there was usually something coming up but I find it hard to just keep running!! I'm listening to music which helps a bit but need to think of something more motivating I think!

runwithme · 28/08/2020 07:04

I'd like to join in but I don't think I've got the sticking power! I've not ran consistently for ages but I've done a half marathon in recent years so i would rather a faster track one. I've seen a 30 day c25k. Has anyone done this, rather than the 12 week one?

UnaOfStormhold · 28/08/2020 07:55

@runwithme - I haven't tried the 30 day version but I did find the first few weeks of C25k progressed pretty slowly for me. That said, I have learnt that I need to give my body time to adapt to the stresses of running over weeks rather than days, even when aerobically it isn't challenging - I don't know how much of that holds true for someone returning to running after a break. I do know that keeping my pace to a point where I finish each run comfortably thinking I could do a bit more really helps to maintain the motivation and consistency.

Perhaps head out, see how you go, and either pick up partway through the C25k programme (weeks 5 and 6 build pretty quickly), have a search for "returning to running plans" or use one of the adaptive coaching programmes (like nike run club) to build up to 5k or wherever you want to get to. Either way you're welcome to stick around for encouragement even if C25k may not be the right programme for you.

Sexnotgender · 28/08/2020 08:19

@runwithme if you’re already relatively fit I’d start at maybe week 5? That way you’ll finish the program in 5 weeks rather than 9.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 28/08/2020 08:57

Checking in.

IveSeenThings · 28/08/2020 09:50

Just back from W4R1. A bit of a step up from W3!
Porridge time Smile

EmmaStone · 28/08/2020 10:13

Runwithme although I'm not a great runner, I'm quite fit generally (circuits, spinning, yoga etc), and I've been doing C25k with my DS13. I made us do 3 days on the trot (so a whole week), then a day off, then the next week's 3 days on the trot. We started on 21 July, and have just come in from W8r3, so only 1 week (3 runs) to do. Didn't religiously stick to this plan - we were on holiday for 11 days and only managed to get out twice, but it's worked well.

EmmaStone · 28/08/2020 10:14

And when I've done it previously, I've started on wk 3 or 4.

sleepyhead · 28/08/2020 13:49

W5 R2 done! And we know what comes next.... Grin

I really found my pace this one. A couple of minutes into the 2nd 8 minute block (so I guess that's the magic 10 minute mark) I felt really easy with my breathing and like I could run at that (slow) pace for ages.

Hopefully that bodes well for the 20 minutes on Sunday Shock. I'm going to give listening to a podcast a go for that longer block I think to keep me interested when I don't have the walks to break things up. I'm planning a new route for myself as well - I seem to go better when I mix things up a bit and keep myself distracted.

randomsabreuse · 28/08/2020 13:56

I'm on a little comeback after appendicitis - so using C25k as a way of limiting my temptation to go too far too soon.

I've been using the intervals but doing a very gentle jog for the walk intervals and around 5k pace for the running parts. Only done 1st 2 runs but felt comfortable - I have been walking the first 15s of the "walk" interval some of the time.

Will see how well it works for the rest of the programme - but stole the idea from a friend and she said it felt really good as a challenge to get back to regular running.

Every other time I've started back (after baby) I've just gone out with no plan.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 28/08/2020 14:21

Ds and I have just done our first run after graduation.

We went up and down a big hill three times (mostly walking downhill to recover!) and then did about 1km in the flat to finish. It was hard!

PrincessWatermelon · 28/08/2020 18:38

Just saying hi to everyone and to have a look round the new thread. Nice to see some new faces Smile

mizu · 28/08/2020 19:06

Graduate 5Ker here and have been doing 5K a couple of times a week since I finished couch to 5K a few weeks ago.

Today, it was really hard and I stopped for a minute half way through as I was feeling nauseous but managed to get going again.

Will try again Sunday.

BooFuckingHoo2 · 28/08/2020 20:20

I’m on w3 at the moment but I’ve just realised I’ve got to run at 10k/h to run 5k in 30 mins Shock at the moment I’m running at 7!! And just about scraping my 3 minute run.....will I ever be able to do it?!
