How much jogging ?

Hiya 🙂
I've bought a treadmill , but it's a low level one I suppose for fast walking and jogging going up to 6km
Can anyone please advise how often and for how long I should aim for per day to get results ?
I was looking online for jog/weigh loss calculators but can't really find an answer .

It's not really about distance.. well it is to some extent, but it's more about effort.

For example, a steady 5k, just chugging along, won't have the same training effect as 5k of hard intervals.

It also depends where you're starting from. Even as little as 5k of steady running, 5x a week, will show results when you're new to it (presuming you're not eating the calories back). But when you're more experienced you'll need to up the mileage, and the intensity, to be able to rely on running alone for fitness and weight loss.

What do you mean by "results"? If you want to lose weight then I hate to break it to you but a treadmill is probably not going to be your solution. Weight loss is 80% diet, 20% exercise. You need to burn around 3500 calories to burn a lb of fat, that's approximately 35 miles of running for an average sized female. Hence, why you need to cut your calorie intake through what your eat in order to have any significant impact on your weight. As the saying goes "you can't out train a bad diet".
If you want to build up your exercise then use the couch 2 5k plan but I'm not sure 6km/hr will be fast enough even for jogging, I'd walk faster than that on the treadmill.

I read it that the OP is running up to 6km each time, not that the treadmill only goes up to 6km an hour ... have I misunderstood?!

As if that's the case, that's a fairly slow walking pace, moving at 17-18min miles (or something like that?) Sorry, but that's not going to have much impact on health, fitness or weight loss unless you're completely inactive at the moment.

I'm working on a big calorie deficit also to go alongside this low level Treadmill
It only goes up to 6km in speed-I'm recovering from an injury so think this will be most suitable for now to get me moving more on a daily basis. When I ask about 'results my what I mean is if I did an hour light jog a day am I likely to to see any difference to my weight or without the high impact / cardio is it a bit pointless
If and when I see an improvement to my fitness and a reduction in weight then I would go out for a proper run

It doesn't look a snails pace in the reviews that have videos -will have to wait and see how I get on

Sorry OP, you won't see a lot of difference with an hour light jog. The way the body works is a bit more complicated than just the equation of the calories injected.
The body adjusts, so you would need a very big calorie deficit.

If you can return it, do it, because I believe the design is wrong and possibly dangerous, reason why it doesn't go over 6km/h. There are no side bars, no speed control you can tap, so you would have to run with the remote in your hand, so space to put your water and if you run for an hour , you will want water.

As you are recovering from an injury, a treadmill without sidebars might be quite dangerous, because a typical move is to hold / lift yourself on the basis and then put the feet on the borders. Even when you hit the stop button, the treadmill doesn't stop at once but will slow down.

And 6km/h is very low for weightloss. 5 minutes of sprints alternating 30 sec at a I-am-going-to-die speed with 30 sec recovery is more effective at weighloss than hours of jogging

@Oceanp94 Wanted also to add, that a lot of amazon reviews are paid. Specialised companies purchase products and rate them at 4 and 5* , so when you see new products with great reviews there is space for some doubts.
Read this NYtimes article about how the fake reviews work and compare the sample cited with the reviews of your product.

Thanks for the replies , I'm back at work now sitting in an office all day and then home to look after my two little ones so if I only walk on this in the evenings then something is better than nothing

Can you look at your commute as a way to add in exercise instead, OP? As people are telling you, the machine you've bought isn't great I'm afraid. You could walk or run faster outside.

Could you run or walk some or all of your trip to work? Or go for a walk or run on your lunch break? You've spent £300 here on something that describes itself as a "walking machine" - not even a treadmill- which isn't going to have the desired effects if it's weight loss and fitness you're after.

No I have to do the school run on my way to work and don't really have a lunch break - if it's really shit I'll send it back , I have 30 days to try it out

Might there may be more you can fit in on your lunch break thsn you think? I only get 30 mins but, if I'm organised, it's enough time for a quick 5k and a shower.
I think it's often difficult to find time, so it's about being creative with what you've got - wherever possible.

in all honesty I would send it back if you can! It's an expensive purchase for what it does. You could probably get a decent treadmill with higher speeds and elevation gain for similar money.

How are you getting on with that treadmill OP? I have been puzzling if it really does have a max speed of 6km an hour. I'm not a fast runner by any means, and if I was trying to jog really slowly would do 6km in about 42-3 mins. To take a whole hour - and that's the machines fastest setting? - can hardly be even a brisk walk?! I think that would be really tedious, and end up being annoying for you. You won't even have the satisfaction of feeling that you've got out of breath and a bit sweaty.
