Keeping fit with dislocated shoulder

I fell and dislocated my shoulder on Thursday. I'm at a loss to know how to stay fit without putting it at risk. I'm off work for 4 weeks.
I used to swim and cycle. I can't walk far due to moretons Neuroma. I need ideas please.

stationary bike (turbo, zwift)?

Could you walk in a swimming pool? I had a broken elbow but DS still wanted to go swimming so I walked up and down in the pool, it was really good exercise as more resistance than normal walking. Sorry if not appropriate with your condition.

Thanks...

The pool is closed for COVID and probably won't reopen. I can't drive to another because of my arm- 6 weeks.

I have an exercise bike but scared of climbing on it, and off. My arms too painful and unstable to hold handlebars.

I feel stuck and miserable :(

Hi, I have a condition that has caused my shoulders to dislocate literally thousands of times. I’m so sorry that you dislocated your shoulder. You can sit on a stationary exercise bike and just leave your arm either in a sling/ by your side. You can adjust most exercise bikes to make them more upright. I never ever hold onto the handrail - I sit straight upright and just let my legs peddle without my arms. I also swim on my back with my poorly arm either by my side or across my chest (nobody seems to ever notice that I don’t use it). Failing that you could also do lower body Pilates/ yoga or get an exercise ball and use it for exercise ball squats and lots of other exercises. I also use the stepper at the gym. Also there are lower body weight machines that do not require use of your arms. Despite my condition and constant dislocations, I am able to do lots of exercise and am very sporty! You should just be very gentle and pace yourself/ don’t overdo it! One other helpful thing is that I love watching shows on my iPad whilst I work out so I don’t have to focus on any discomfort (caused by me working out really hard). I hope your shoulder gets better really soon btw!

DH used to repeatedly dislocate his shoulder. Put him into bad agony every time until replaced and shaken for a week afterwards. But was not off work for it. And he got back on a bike quick. What kind of work do you do?

there are probably youtube videos you could try following. Exercises for the bedbound, for people with broken arms, etc.

sounds even worse than DH's and his experiences were pretty desperately awful. Grown man crying. Morphine, codeine, ibuprofen, IV paracetamol didn't touch it but he became a fan of gas & air last time. He always said the agony was gone after it was put back in place, just soreness and huge fatigue to deal with for a few days.

To fill the time, you could go thru every youtube exercise video that seems ok to try and give detailed ratings & comments.

I’ve dislocated both my shoulders Hundreds if not thousands of times.

As long as you are careful you can do most things.
