Running jacket

Can anyone recommend a running jacket for when we hit the rubbish weather please? Just finished couch to 5k and I'm determined to keep it up through the autumn/winter.

You don't really need a running jacket if you're only doing fairly short distances. They start becoming very hot, very quickly, and tbh it's preferable just to get wet!

In crap weather I run in a long sleeved base layer; vest underneath if it's really cold. My favourite ones are Inov8 and Ronhill as they're breathable, thin enough not to get too hot, and are good at keeping the wind off. Then shorts and gloves. Gloves are the most important winter running purchase, IMO.

If you're dead set on a jacket then get a windproof; definitely not a waterproof. But honestly, a long sleeved top is much more functional as they're lighter, less bulky, and you can tie them round your waist more easily if you get hot.
My running jackets only come out if I'm doing v long distances in the fells (say 4h upwards, in rough terrain). I spent all last winter marathon training through snow, hail, etc and the jackets never came out once. Long sleeved base layers all the way!

I tend to agree with pp, I have searched in vain but they are either too rustly, too sweaty or not waterproof enough.

After many years of winter marathon training I can honestly say I've only worn mine once.

I'll wear a light long-sleeved top for when it starts to get cold, and then I have another, thicker long-sleeved top (with a hood, and little holes for thumbs to save wearing gloves) for when it's very cold in January/February, I'll also swap from shorts to light leggings around November, and thicker leggings in January. At that point I'll sometimes put something on my head to keep my ears warm but only for long runs over an hour.

Most of my kit comes from Decathlon, cheap and useful!

I genuinely prefer running in winter due to the cold weather, I easy do between 5 and 10k without a jacket and much prefer it to when it's warm in spring/summer.
Even running in the rain feels better than when it's warm Smile I'm looking forward to it

Thank you, will invest in some long sleeved tops
