Running shoes advice

I am redoing c25k - again. Grin
However, I plan to stick with it this time.

So, I have two questions about running shoes:

The first is that I have downloaded the Nike run club app and that gives you the ability to track how many miles your running shoes have done. Ok, can do that, but how many miles should I do before getting new shoes?

Secondly, I am running around a local country park this time rather than on pavement. It is mainly gravel type terrain and hilly, so would I be better off with trail shoes rather than my standard running shoes? I’m mainly concerned because it can be a bit slippery going down hill, especially if it has rained. I am quite capable of going arse over tit and would like to avoid this if possible.
Thanks

It sounds like trail shoes would be better for the terrain you're running on. There's a billion different options for trail shoes, some are better in mud, some on rocks, etc. If it's fairly hard packed gravel then look for something that still has good cushioing. The Hokas are good if they suit your feet or the Brooks Cascadia is a good "hybrid" shoe that won't cripple you if you run a couple of miles on tarmac. I think most people will get about 500 miles out of a pair of trainers, some less and some more. My strava flashed up that i'd done 400km in my current pair and should be thinking about replacing them but they still seem like new!

@emmathedilemma great, thanks.

I think I’ll treat myself to a visit to the running shop (any excuse) Grin
