Has anyone had any detailed communication from their club about the arrangements when reopening. I received the email saying they're taking fees from the 25th but wondered if anyone had heard any more from their club?

I'm in 2 minds what to do at the moment, whether to freeze, cancel or use membership.

Are they reducing any of the prices for kids memberships as they only seem to have online adult classes for our one in Liverpool.

iMatter · 15/07/2020 15:48

They've also cancelled Les Mills apparently

billybagpuss · 15/07/2020 15:54

My kids work there and there are a few changes and some that haven’t been finalised yet. From what I can gather membership can remain frozen for a while. DL kids club will be open for limited numbers, but not the baby sessions yet. They also said something about kids not being allowed in the pool straight away because of splashing but they weren’t sure on that one. I think they’re going to extend the gym onto the tennis court to increase social distance and numbers.

Achangeagain1 · 15/07/2020 16:30

@iMatter hold on what!?!!?

iMatter · 15/07/2020 16:42

@Achangeagain1 I know!!!

Have a look at the recent FB post announcing the reopening. Lots of people absolutely fuming about this (understandably). I know some of the instructors at my club and they are gutted. All that training and expense.

Here's the blurb from the FAQ page.

That’s even more confusing - I could half understand dropping body pump (though it’s a favourite) due to equipment - but why drop say combat or attack where you don’t touch anything. Licensing cost saving I reckon.

JacobReesMogadishu · 15/07/2020 19:07

Yep, licenses cost money. Also they pay external instructors twice what the in house ones are paid. At my club the in house instructors don’t have Les Mills qualifications and they rely on externals a lot.

Not sure if that’s the same everywhere.

JacobReesMogadishu · 15/07/2020 19:08

The shorter format is a rubbish excuse. You could do an hour class and have a 15 min break for any cleaning before the next class. Next class doesn’t have to start on the hour.

One of our studios is shut as it has “the wrong sort of air conditioning “. So will only have one studio when it reopens.

Hopethiswilldo · 15/07/2020 19:16

I don't mind too much paying the 25% freeze fee but I bet they're not going to reply to my email by 24th July when they are planning to take 7 days worth of money... followed by a whole month's worth a few days later for August!! That's all from one pay cheque for me and it will leave me struggling. Does anyone know what would happen if I just cancelled my direct debit to stop them doing this?

ritzbiscuits · 16/07/2020 07:51

I'm not a member anymore but absolutely no way I'd be paying their prices without Les Mills classes. Interesting tactics, both of our local leisure centres (different councils) are both offering Les Mills classes now. Also Les Mills on Demand may be an option for anyone who is really keen on their classes.

SpiltMilk100 · 17/07/2020 08:40

We've had an email to say kids under 5 will be free (because they're not going any kids classes under 5) and 10% reduction on the fees for everyone else. They've confirmed they're not doing a booking system for the gym or the pool. No kids classes for under 5s or crèche, no swimming lessons below stage 3, no soft play, holiday club only 4 hours a day. Absolutely no point with us continuing as I can do anything with the crèche and kids clubs for under 5s closed.

The FAQs on their website also confirms you can suspend for free until 1st of sept.

furtivefeline · 23/07/2020 07:07

Has anyone heard any more about the free guest passes/vouchers offered to compensate the closure in March? The questionnaire said anyone who didn’t make a selection would be given 5 guest passes by default. Anyone received them yet?

JacobReesMogadishu · 23/07/2020 07:16

I opted for food credit......was told it would be put on the membership card. I’d imagine guest passes will just be credited to your account.

JacobReesMogadishu · 25/07/2020 18:02

So spoke to the manager today. Plan is nationally to replace body balance permanently with this yoga fusion thing as will save money not paying for the les Mills licence. I'm not impressed

furtivefeline · 25/07/2020 23:35

I asked about guest passes/other compensation for March closure and was told they were aiming to add them to members’ accounts at the start of August.

JacobReesMogadishu · 26/07/2020 00:10

July 30th I was told.

PilatesPeach · 28/07/2020 18:48

Many clubs, not just DL, have dropped attack & combat as so many tracks are moving around so impossible to guarantee social distancing you just need one person to get too close eg when you run round the room in attack or run forward and back or in combat shuffle to the side or shuffle forward then various front and back kicks.

DL clean all equipment so members get clean equipment at the beginning of classes then a cleaning team come in afterwards, members just walk out and leave any weights and mats on the floor.
Some clubs are requiring members to clean equipment used in class and others require instructors to the do cleaning.

furtivefeline · 30/07/2020 17:24

5 guest passes added to my account now - will be handy to use over the summer. 😀
