Are the official fitbits worth the money? I'm mainly wanting one to track steps and distance as don't always have my phone with me.

For reliable distance you need something with GPS in. All phones do, and they'll do step tracking too.... would you be better off getting a waistband/arm strap for the phone rather than spending £160+ on a watch?

They aren't £160! I don't want to have to carry my phone around the house all day with me.

It depends what you want it for. I had a basic Garmin that my mum gave me a few years ago because she couldn't wear it for work and all I wanted was a step tracker. Then I upgraded because I wanted GPS. Then I upgraded again because I got hooked on all the features and, well erm I'm definitely not sat waiting for the postman to bring me my newest watch nope Blush

How much do you want to spend and what are you using it for? I haven't had a Fitbit (Garmin addict) but I'd recommend checking that when they say GPS that it doesn't have to do it via your phone - lots of the cheaper models of trackers connect via your phone which would defeat the point of you getting one. YouTube often has brilliant reviews of individual trackers.

I think realistically if you want any kind of fitness tracker with it’s own GPS you will be looking at the £150 mark. I’ve got a pretty good fitbit but even that doesn’t have its own GPS (but I always have my phone on me so it’s not an issue for me). The fitbit charge 4 has GPS, that’s currently £129.

I like having a Fitbit simply because friends have fitbits, we can link up for challenge making it more fun.

I've recently got a Garmin vivoactive s4 and I love it. It also looks really smart in my opinion. Was looking at Apple watches originally but they were double the price for a lot of bits I didn't want. Also Apple didn't support amazon music or audible which I like to listen to when I work out.

Never owned a Fitbit so can't comment if they are better/worse

A decent fitness tracker with gps is expensive .
If it hasn't got gps you will need to take your phone with you to sync it .
I use a Apple Watch but I run a fair bit garmin are v good too .
If it's just steps I'd just get a cheapish Fitbit and take my phone I wouldn't buy a expensive watch for steps .
I started off with Fitbit and it was fine for tracking steps / exercise I only upgraded because I wanted gps for when out running and not got my phone.

I've ordered a Fitbit charge 3 special edition. It was on offer at £94. I can't use it fully at the moment with being shielded but once I'm out and about I will be back to cycling as well as walking my usual 5 miles a day. I'd like to start swimming but our local pool has closed permanently and the next nearest one is a bus ride away making it an expensive exercise. Coronavirus has scuppered my summer exercise plans Sad

Hmmm it connects via my phone for gps but that's ok. I'm not sure how that actually works though! I'm not very tech savvyBlush

I think that one has built in gps so you should be ok .

SistemaAddict · 22/06/2020 08:36

It says connected gps. What does that mean exactly?

Connected GPS means it uses the GPS from your phone via Bluetooth I think. Mine does that, sometimes takes a bit of time to connect so I try to connect before I start my activity.
