Most accurate running app

I've always used RunDouble C25k app from play store however I've got a fitbit now so been using them both simultaneously. Problem is I'm finding differences in pace and distance after my runs and I don't know which is more reliable.

My Fitbit is a charge 3 so actually uses my phone's gps so I don't understand why there would be a difference.

I've also used map my run alongside to see if it matches fitbit or RunDouble and it had its own different figures!

Has anyone worked out which is the most accurate?

The one that gives you the longest distance covered is probably the least accurate. If GPS is poor, it will jump around near your location so if you look closely to a map your app has tracked, it will be more wiggly (unless you've had to jump out of the way of other people a lot!). Watches are generally more accurate than phones.

My watch uses my phone's gps though so I thought the phone would pick it up and the fitbut and RunDouble apps would be identical. There was .3 miles difference yesterday, where my watch was saying I'd finished but RunDouble wanted me to continue .3 miles which was a killer as I was definitely ready to stop Grin

I've checked the maps and they look the same.

I like Strava.

The two apps will have different ways of handling the same data, so one might discount a way point of an accuracy of 50m but one might include it.

The faster one is always the most reliable. As is the one showing longer mileage Grin

All the apps/trackers can be out, so unless there's a very particular why you need accuracy, go for the one you find easiest to use, and/or displays results in most useful way.

That said, the most serious runners I know all use Garmin (and perhaps free Strava just to show their mates) with the occasional Suunto

Yeah if you are getting serious about improving your running technique, endurance and speed, you need something better than a fitbit charge. Garmin vivoactive 4s is brilliant, the Garmin connect app has lots of inbuilt training programmes, so I put in that I want to do a 5k in 34 mins (current pb is 37 mins, and yes I am really slow!), and it plans workouts for me day by day, in terms of pacing and gives me feedback on the watch whether I am going too fast or slow, and with the heart rate feedback and estimate of whether I'll achieve my goal in 10 weeks or so, it is brilliant to follow and is making me feel like I am progressing.

ITonyah · 01/06/2020 12:28

That sounds brilliant MrsJamin!

It's not that I'm a serious runner, the pace doesn't really bother me. More the distances tbh. If I stick to one app then I won't be able to compare Grin

Garmin sounds great though.
