Full press ups

I want to do a full press up.
I can do 20+ press ups on my knees right down to the ground but only about 2 hardly bending my arms at all on my toes.
What's a realistic target for working up to proper full press ups?
Is it better to do 20 deep press ups a day on my knees or 3 pathetic ones on my toes? What's going to get me strongest fastest?
How many days till I see some progress? I'm so impatient. I've been stuck at this level for weeks and weeks.
Any advice?

I'd start with pathetic ones and keep at it.

Maybe try this...

Eventually, you will be able to do vertical ones.

As well as doing kneeling press-ups, I would work on doing planks and plank mountain climbers.

I never thought I'd be able to go from kneeling to press-ups as it seemed like such a huge progression, but after a week or two of doing the mountain climbers, I tried doing a normal press-up and I could!

Now to work on doing more than one...

Lots of tips in this thread

Do what press ups you can do on your toes - even just one or two, then drop down to your knees to do more. You'll still be building upper body strength by doing them on your knees. Remember to engage your core, really helps.

Thanks for the link @nbee84 How did I miss that thread, it only was a few days ago.

It's best to do it on your toes but with your hands raised as much as you need to be able to do them. So toes on the floor and hands on a table, for example.

I just do raised ones to get a better form on my toes, my favourite is using a trx. I guess it's just about practise and consistency of practise.
