Time to get fitter

I am an unfit (ish) mum of two. I found exercising with babies and toddlers v hard and I probably didnt look after myself well; too many take aways, chronically dehydrated, too much sugar.....all the usual crutches. Nevertheless we all survived!

Before I had kids I was still in my twenties with good metabolism and could get away without too much effort.

I did 5:2 with some success but found that I created new, truly healthy behaviours through following "Our Path", now called Second Nature.

Am definitely a lot healthier now.

In the last two and a half years I have done couch to 5k and although I completed it and continued it well enough, I now truly know I am not a runner. It just doesn't suit me. I never started to enjoy it. It hurts to run, I hate the breathlessness.

What I do love is walking (we have recently acquired a dog too as I know I will forever love to walk my dog daily). I also enjoy bike riding (during lockdown as it feels so much safer on the roads) and a weekly swim. I love to garden and when we can, kayaking.

I plan to do a 30 min stretch each day, 30-60mins walk or bike each day and three days a week, follow a body weight and hand weights work out.

How does this sound? In a lot of ways, my slate is clean, I am a healthy weight, I have a healthy enough body and I know I can have a nice figure if I just tone up a bit.

I am 34. I mostly want to reap the mental health benefits as well as enjoy a more toned version of myself.

I think that plan sounds great, it's pretty much what I do. Every day I walk, 60-90mins or a bike ride of an hour, and I do weight training every other day. Make sure you get protein in within 30 mins of an intense workout to protect and build your growing muscles.

I've just signed up to second nature, is it good? I've also started walking every night, I have to take the pram and my daughter walks with me too so it's more difficult to get my pace up but we managed four and a half miles last night!

Yes S3cond Nature/Our path is excellent. Not a diet. So healthy in terms of being realistic and all about habits. Nothing faddy at all. Easy to do it all on a normal supermarket shop and no need for loads of supplements. I still eat their savoury slice about 5 days out of seven!

And you genuinely feel GREAT on it and see sensible results.
