Talk to me about the Peleton bike

Does anyone have one and is it worth the money? Am sorely tempted now we are stuck at home but have been trying to talk myself out of it based on the fact that I know I'll be back in the gym as soon as it's open again and I can't justify the cost plus gym fees. But I am SO fed up of the cheapo bike that I'm trying to exercise on at the minute!

Any opinions please?

I absolutely love it. We bought ours the week before lockdown as we knew the gyms would shut.
There are four adults in the household using it.
The bike itself is really impressive bit of kit. There is a massive on demand catalogue of classes of different lengths, music genres and instructors. There are strength/cardio/yoga/walking/running classes on app too.
IMO you won't regret it!

I love mine. It's got me into exercise in a way nothing else ever has and I genuinely enjoy the classes. If you like exercising to music then I think it's a no brainer. They also do a 30-day trial if you get it and don't like it. I'd never done a spin class before we went for it and fully intended to return if we didn't use it but we both have.

There's a referral code system for £100 off accessories when you buy the bike if you decide to go for it and want one.

Thanks for your replies. How does the monthly subscription work - is there a 'base level' of classes you have access to without paying a subscription? Or is it subscribe or get nothing? I'm wrestlng with paying that on top of fees for David Lloyd which aren't cheap!

It's £39 a month for the full bike subscription that gives you all the ride metrics and leaderboard etc. There is a cheaper way to do it with the digital app which is £12 per month (per person whereas the other one is per bike, but currently free for 90 days) but you'd have to attach an iPad or something to the bike to stream the classes on and you wouldn't get the full bike experience. Some people buy cheaper spin bikes and do it this way though. Another option is to stream to a tv.

andadietcoke · 27/04/2020 16:33

As much as I love it I think it probably doesn't make sense for you as it's a temporary measure. Maybe look at cheaper spin bikes and then use the Peloton app - with that you get all the cardio classes / yoga / meditation / dance / strength etc.

Rollercoaster1920 · 27/04/2020 16:38

Do you have a real bike? Look at 'turbo' trainers (Indoor cycle trainers), especially those that can hook up to Zwift.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 27/04/2020 16:40

No I don't have a real bike, I don't cycle outdoors. I think you're right that it's not worth it for me. I'd like to think I'd still use it when my gym reopens but then I'll be trying to get my value out of the membership so I can't do everything!

op, I was the same. I love spinning a used to do 4 classes a week so looked into Peleton but the bike plus monthly subscription just seems too much as I know I'll be back at the gym soon.

I have digged out my road bike.......it just isnt the same :(

mrscampbellblackagain · 27/04/2020 16:53

I got a peleton delivered the first week of lockdown - I love it. Have used it at least five times a week since I got it. I don't think I will go back to spin now.

I also use the app to do strength training.

The delivery times are pretty slow now - I think it can take up to 7 weeks so maybe not worth it for you.

I’m sure I remember reading the company were in financial difficulty....be careful and research before going ahead, would hate to spend thousands on a bike and then the company goes bust...that’s one hell of a expensive exercise bike if that happens...

PerplexingWords · 27/04/2020 17:02

We've attached a turbo trainer to a road bike. There is an app, but tbh we just go out and go for it. It seemed like a sensible compromise till the gym opens again. The whole family (three teens) love it.

MotheringShites · 27/04/2020 17:05

Peloton is without a doubt the best piece of kit we’ve ever owned.

nbee84 · 27/04/2020 20:43

I have a spin bike already so signed up for the 60 day free trial of the Peloton app - £12 a month if I continue beyond that. I'm impressed with the range of classes - you can choose length, instructor, type of class, music genre. There's also strength, yoga, cardio, meditation and more to choose from. My bike has no computer so I just have to gauge the resistance and cadence myself. Cadence is no problem as you're working mostly to the beat of the music, resistance I just go by what feels tough enough for me.
However, I'm a lover of the Les Mills classes (that I used to do at David LLoyd) and am currently on a free trial of Les Mills on Demand. I mostly do combat, grit and attack at the moment and have a bar due to be delivered in the next week or so and I can then do pump and grit strength etc. LMOD also has spin classes on which I've done a couple of. I'm enjoying the classes at home far more than I thought I would and the spin bike tends to get neglected in favour of those. I'm even thinking of selling the bike (if you're near Hatfield, Herts send me a pm)

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 27/04/2020 21:38

Thanks @nbee84 but I'm nowhere near you. We have a cheapish spin bike already and it does the job. I've tried LMOD but it's a pain having to be near a screen as I like to do my workouts in the garden.

Think I've talked myself out of the Peleton bike, will carry on doing my own thing.
