Yoga mat under £20

Can anyone recommend a decent yoga mat under £20. I'd love a fancy one but can't afford it. I have a cheaper PVC mat but it has been shredding for a while and now I'm doing yoga everyday it's not good any more.

I've looked at some online but they seem to be the same as the one I have but more expensive. Thanks.

Oh and I meant to ask how long you would expect a mat to last, I've had mine 16 months. I am willing to pay a bit more if it is going to last a long time.

I don't think you'll get a decent yoga mat that lasts for under £20.

If you can stretch to exactly £20, then these are actually quite good:

The best mats are these, imo, though:

This one is £19, but postage for spend under £20 is £2.50...
www.yogastudio.co.uk/yoga-studio-lite-4-5mm-sticky-yoga-mat - I really like Yoga Studio's mats.

Yogamatters are great mats as well, £20 but again there is a delivery fee: www.yogamatters.com/yogamatters-sticky-yoga-mat.html

TK Maxx is often a good place to look, probably closer to a tenner but higher delivery price. Gaiam is a decent brand.

I have several mats and unless you're spending hours each day on it, 16 months is rubbish. My oldest mat is about 18 years old - I bought a Jade mat a couple of years ago because I fancied a new one, the old one's still going strong.

I use this one for my practice. It's so far lasted me about 4 years, but I'll be getting a Liforme mat when it has worn out:

Thanks for these

@BertiesLanding Is that jute mat comfortable, it looks rough in the photots? I'd love a liforme one but it's way beyond what I can afford.

@LordEmsworth what is your old mat made from to last that long?

It's pretty rough - not 'squooshy' at all. But it's the only one where I stay put!

LordEmsworth · 19/04/2020 17:23

You know what - I bought it for £15 from my yoga teacher in 2002, she bought them in bulk somewhere. It's nice, thick enough to cushion but not so thick it's bouncy - I do really like it. But no idea what it's made from or who made it!

I really like the idea of a cork yoga mat but haven't actually tried one.

The last mat I had was from Gaiam and lasted years but got damaged. I replaced it with one from Aldi as a stop gap but it's actually lasted really well and is quite sticky so I haven't bothered getting another one.

I have a liforme and it is amazing it has completely changed my practice and I never slip in downdog ever Grin.

They are expensive and mine was a present but if that's anyway you can stretch I would really recommend one.

BertiesLanding · 20/04/2020 19:56

@supercalifragilistic123 - That's my mind made up!

supercalifragilistic123 · 20/04/2020 21:19

You won't regret it Grin

AnnaNimmity · 20/04/2020 21:24

I have a liforme mat too - love it. I think I found a discount code when I got mine.

Sorry they are expensive, but worth it and last much longer than other mats (although the cat has got to mine in the last few days Angry) I have a cheaper one and just don't use it.

AugustRose · 20/04/2020 23:30

Thanks everyone, I decided to go with the ecoyoga jute one after watching some reviews on youtube - I decided the £45 was doable if it's going to last me a few years. A few also said that lululemon are exactly the same as liforme but cheaper, I don't attend a class, just do yoga at home so I've never tried any of those mats.
