Running clothes

Where do you all get your running clothes from? I'm specifically looking for a hoodie that is warm but quick dry material and waterproof if such a thing even exists! I'm a new runner and would like to find stuff to wear on cold or rainy days to keep me motivated. Thank you

Decathlon, miles cheaper than anywhere else but good quality and last. The sizing comes up small though.

I like www.sportsshoes.com/ - can get some real bargains on there

Ok...can I politely suggest you don't want a hoodie, and you certainly don't want a waterproof?

I'm a pretty serious runner and I'll only carry a waterproof on two occasions; those being if I'm out in the fells and at risk of being out for several hours in tough terrain, or else if I'm going for a long run (2hrs plus) in very heavy rain. In anything less than that, true waterproofs turn into a boil-in-the-bag situation pretty quickly.

Instead, I'd recommend getting a lightweight windproof with some water resistance built in (Ronhill kit is perfect for mid-range prices, or else Decathlon for value) rather than a waterproof.

As for a hoody, just no - running in them is hot and uncomfortable even when it's cold, let alone going into spring. Alternatively, long sleeved tops by Inov8, Alpkit and Ronhill are v good. Or again, Decathlon for value.

If you're buying one thing, I'd make it a zip-up windproof with a pocket, to wear with your vest, shorts and sports bra on v cold and rainy days.

If you're XS, this is a great deal:

Otherwise , this one isn't quite as high spec, but is still loads better than anything on the high street:

I tend to spend money on good running shoes and a sports bra. Everything else is Nike (shorts), Ronhill (everything)or Inov8 (tops) in the sale. Or Decathlon for vests and socks.

I have a gorgeous running jacket from Ashmei which is rain resistant and merino. I got it on ebay second hand as they are £££ new, but I wear it all though the winter with layers varying from bra to full on tops and it doesn't look worn at all.
I wear a buff and visor on my head in the rain. A hood would be a nightmare to keep on, and the visor stops the rain dripping in my eyes. If its warm rain I don't use the buff layer

I second what runningonempty said. I'm a seasoned runner, I run through all the seasons and on all weather, and you don't want a hoodie or waterproof.

In winter I wear a Merino or silk base layer and thick running leggings.

This time of year you really don't need much, even if it's raining. I tend to wear a cap of its raining to keep it off my face and a long sleeved top of its windy too.

But generally, running gets you warm fast, so you don't want a lot of layers on. The rain you'll barely notice unless you're out for over an hour.

Good luck!

Decathlon is good for general running clothes.

God no. Don't wear waterproofs or hoodies. As a PP said it's feel like you are being boiled in the bag. Wear as little as possible. Close fitting long sleeve is fine for colt/wet. I sometimes wear a a Lululemon define jacket over a vest but it ends up round my waist bobbing around. Even in snow.

Thank you all for your advice. I'll rethink the hoodie 😂. I'm going to get some basics from Decathlon I think and save up for one of those lovely jackets.

Agree with PP to not get anything too heavy you'll warm up quickly and regret having overdressed.

I buy kit from many places. Wiggle, sports shoes.com, Primark, BAM, lidl and aldi (their stuff is very good quality for the price).

The things to spend most money on are decent running shoes and a sports bra.

You won't need a lovely jacket! I went out for a run yesterday wearing shorts and a racer back tee shirt. I was still dripping in sweat.

OP there is nothing lovelier than running in the rain and getting completely soaking wet. Embrace the freedom! It's lovely running carefree, not caring you are soaked to the skin seeing everyone else huddled in waterproofs or under umbrellas all stressed out. Home to a lovely hot shower and a cup of tea. Bliss.
