Indoor cycle trainer

Hi all,
Please can you recommend a good indoor cycle trainer. I need the physical item and the app as well. I've looked around and there are so many my head hurts. I want to be able to ride my own bike at home and i want to be able to measure the distance i have cycled. Ideally something that doesn't take up too much space and isn't too expensive.

TIA.

Tacx smart trainer - the models are much of a muchness and a basic ish one should be fine for what you want. You can use it with the Tacx app or Zwift, Sufferfest etc.

Following ! I have an old, solidly working exercise bike but it can't connect to any electronic devices. I tried fitting a Bluetooth device to my trainers which would keep track of wheel revolution etc but could not get it to link properly. I end up using my Fitbit to see what effort I've put in when I increase resistance. I also considered rollers for my roadbike but didn't see any suitable.
Would bloody love a Peloton Wink

Thanks. The Pelatons look good but very much like a spin class. Im not sure i could motivate myself to do those as i tried them last year and found them incredibly hard. I more want to be able to say im going to cycle 25 miles now, off i go.

Thanks for the Tacx recommendation. Ill have a look. I have been looking at Elite but they are all out of stock. Seems like lots of people had the same idea.

Just cycle your bike outside?

@Happyclappy23 there are GCN videos on YouTube which have classes (the bloke presenters are less twee and more fun) so yes it's like a spin class, but the nice thing is nobody can see if you're doing everything "properly" Grin

Happyclappy23 · 14/04/2020 13:55

Rightly or wrongly I wont ride my bike on the roads as i think its too dangerous hence looking for an indoor cycle trainer.

Pinkrocker - thanks i will take a look. When i did a few spin classes last year I was the only one that had to sit down to rest. The trainer said it was because i needed to work out how to change the tensions on the bike and that everyone was working as hard as me but they understood the bike tensions more. So kind but so really i just wasn't as fit as any of them!

OP I would give spin another go if I were you - you really do just need to get used to changing the resistance and only doing what you can then building it up slowly. I do 4 classes a week (when my gym is open) and have managed to repurpose our exercise bike to set up my own little self taught routines. It really is more interesting that sitting there and cycling 25 miles or whatever with no variation. Les Mills online do RPM classes and they have a 14 day free trial at the moment.

(I would also love a Peleton bike but can't justify it as I know I'll be back at the gym the minute it's open again).

Another vote for Tacx smart trainer. We're a fan of Zwift in our house (although I count myself in that loosely as I'm definitely more of a runner than a cyclist, but it's providing some variety in lockdown as there's only so many treadmill miles I can do!)
