I’m hoping someone may be able to help please?! Just come back from the docs this morning and they have said I’ve got a full thickness meniscus tear!

Does anyone have any experience of this or know anything about this please? I’ve been referred to a consultant because gp thinks I need surgery but was wondering if anyone has not needed surgery?!

Unlucky you :( sorry to hear! I was on a 10 month waiting list for meniscus tear repair and ACL reconstruction but then found out i was pregnant so that has gone out of the window! My consultant had a look and told me it would be worth the operation as i am in agony and now i'm pregnant it is getting worse day by day 😭

Is it really painful for you? Without the ACL problem, the tear for me was a little painful every now and then and i probably could have managed without but with the ACL injury on top i have no choice. I think for a meniscus tear it is probably worth the operation but it's all about pain management and remembering in the future it could get a lot worse!

I had a meniscus tear. After the MRI I was recommended for surgery but this was already 2 months after the injury and I had started physio and having read mixed reviews about the operation I decided to carry on with physio. I am going to be honest it took ages to heal but after 8 months I was fully back to exercise but it was probably about a year before I stopped having the odd pain from it but two and a half years on it is like it never happened . My father in law also tore his and had the operation his recovery was slightly quicker (only slightly as he had a little complication but he is in his eighties!) and has no regrets and he is fully healed so I guess it is a personal decision depending on how debilitating it is and your lifestyle and also what the surgeon advises (mine was on the fence on what I should do)

Thank you for your replies! Do either of you remember the thickness of your tears and if they were full thickness or not? X

Mine is a full thickness tear! I can't wait for my operation.. whenever that may be 😂 do you want an operation or are you going to try and recover yourself?
