Half marathon advice

I'm supposed to be running the Vitality Big Half on Sunday. It would be my 5th half. I'm a regular runner and in good shape physically.
However, I have a broken little finger which is in a splint - it's rigid and wraps over my smallest two fingers and around the side of my hand. My fingers are at an angle of about 110 degrees bend at the knuckle.
When I first broke it they thought I had hand fractures too so put me in a fingertip to elbow plastercast, so I instantly thought no way I could do the half. But now I just have a splint I'm very tempted.
Advice please from wise runners!

I'd do it if it's not going to cause you pain.

ShouldIRun · 27/02/2020 16:56

I'm really tempted as it's not painful (it's never has been!) and I'm working quite a physical job with it!
I can always try (and not tell anyone) and drop out if necessary Grin

Any other opinions?

I'd do it if it's not painful or jarring when running

emmathedilemma · 27/02/2020 18:59

The only concern I'd have is if your hands swell up in the splint but over a half in cold weather that's probably quite unlikely. If it's not hurting you to run then go for it.

I'd 100% still run

Thanks all. I'm going to do it. Take it steady and enjoy it. I was pb chasing but think I have a little excuse not to! Always got the Royal Parks in October.
I'll let you know how I get on Smile

Go to the back of your pen, and take it very gently.

If you can manage without using the bag drop, you can quit at any point. It's a nice flat course, so you should be fine as long as your stride doesn't jar it

AuntieStella thanks! It is so unpainful I feel pretty okay about it. I'm not going to push it, forget the pb I was hoping for and just see how it goes.

If you deliberately start slowly, you might end up with perfectly lovely negative splits!
