Losing the chub

So I am 8 stone 10.

I swim a mile twice a week and manage a 5km treadmill run once or twice a week too, plus some free weights. I also walk my dogs most days.

I guess I am slim and wear a 10/12 but I hate the layer of wobbly fat around my upper thighs and over my tum.

What is the best all round exercise I can build in to my routine do you think?

I am 45 if that has a bearing.

Being 45 does have a bearing - if you are peri- menopausal then falling estrogen and progesterone levels mean that your muscles aren't as receptive to the kinds of exercise that previously may have toned you up. You need to stress them more (which also helps with maintaining bone density) with things like HIIT sessions, circuits and running hard intervals (rather than just running along easily). Upping the amount of free weights work you do will help too - do it more often and go for heavier weights and low reps rather than lighter weights and lots of reps. If you can get into the habit of doing these kinds of exercise now then they will see you good through menopause and beyond.

I had a layer of wobbly fat in the same places despite being very fit. I can dead-lift more than twice what I weigh and do vertical press ups etc.

Exercise didn't shift the wobble. I had to revise my diet to do that.
